I wanted to be at least OPEN to it, despite Ghostbusters being a pretty seminal movie for me growing up.

But screw that. They seem to, based on the trailer they released, taken nearly the exact same formula as the first movie, and just removed the dicks from the main characters. If they were going to reboot this and go in the direction of there being a female cast for some reason, why not make it entirely different? Instead, it looks to be exactly the same...

Hard pass.

Honestly? It looks kind of shitty even if there had not been a Ghostbusters from the 80's.

But considering there was, this looks like exactly what it is...an attempt to mine an old franchise with new effects while attempting to look edgy by altering the sex of the characters.

I'm not saying a sequel or even a full on reboot could not have worked...it's a cool universe. But this sure as shite isn't the way to have done it...

And this is exactly why everyone was upset, even if they didn't say it directly. It just seemed to be the wrong way to go, even if you wanted some kind of female cast (which, to me, is hypocritical, because we're supposed to be doing things in more diverse ways. All female =/= diverse.)

And don't misunderstand...as the movie was playing I was leaning over to my wife saying, "Well...this is essentially the plot to Star Wars." I gave them a pass on that because they were setting up the universe again after what had been nearly 30 years of nothing (prequels notwithstanding.)

Ghostbusters had basically one good movie, and it looks to have been duplicated here...poorly. I'm less forgiving of that...as they could have done anything but clearly used the exact same formula minus penises.

The mileage of others may vary, but this is one I'd predict fans of the old movie are going to pass hard on, while younger movie goers may give it a shot and based on word of mouth it may do ok or tank badly.
