It's almost like a comedy. It's like the anti Band of Brothers. It is very cynical.

Watched that series a few years back, and I was not impressed.

good way to describe it. Its very anti war and critical of the way we handled that whole situation

It was accurate in depicting the attitude of the line soldier during that time.

I wouldn't call it anti-war, honest, but not anti-war.

This. It's just true. There are heroes and dickheads fighting on the same side in a war where none of them really know why they're there. Completely different scenario than what Easy Company was facing at D-Day and after.

I thought it was pretty great at the time. Need to rewatch it at some point.

I loved BOB, but I assume the banter in Generation Kill is much closer to how the men of Easy Company spoke.

WW2 was one of the most clear cut examples of good versus evil in the history of human conflict.

The invasion of Iraq was a muddled affair and the spirit of the soldiers reflects that.

The sand was very evil

So many great quotes from this. I can't find the one where the driver gets mad during the firefight when the Brazilian guy keeps screaming in Portuguese or when none of the humvees would back up. "Can someone, please, back the frick up" while under heavy fire

I remember trying to watch this when it came out, when I was a sophomore in college. Couldn't get into it. I'm sure I just didn't "get it" at the time, and I need to go back and watch it.

I bought a haji copy of it on DVD during my second deployment in Iraq in 2008.

You know that scene in Spaceballs where Dark Helmet orders the tape fast forwarded to “now now”? That’s exactly what it was like, laughing at the banter and being like “wait...I’m living this shite right now”

Read the book and saw the series. The larger point was that it was total misuse of military tool kit to utilize reconnaissance Marines as a ground force. The book communicated it better. Nathaniel Fick (Brads LT) wrote his own book on his experiences called One Bullet Away. Little more intelligent and less bitching. No series though.

Watch it listening through headphones if possible. There’s countless hilarious things being said in the background.

Oft overlooked in the HBO library

I loved it. When they sing "Teenage Dirtbag" in the Humvee it cracks me up.

The clusterfrickness of all of it is captured very well throughout, especially as exemplified by Capt America and Encino Man.

BoB is accurate right down to the shoe polish. Society just hadn't been as totally vulgarized in the 40's as it was in 2003.
