Dude's a freaking legend.

It's a freaking tragedy that his last movie will be Welcome to Mooseport.

That’s got to be your greatest fear as an actor. A guy with his resume will be noted in his obit one day for being Lex Luthor in Superman IV.

I loved him in Hoosiers, Unforgiven and Crimson Tide. French Connection was okay too.

Question is though....what is his best performance?? Obvious choice for me is French Connection, but damn do I love Get Shorty....

Of course there's also:

Crimson tide
A bridge too far
Night moves
Unforgiven
Scarecrow
Mississippi burning
Young Frankenstein
Royal tenenbaums
Superman
The conversation
Enemy of the state
Hoosiers
Bonnie and Clyde
Poseidon adventure
Etc
Etc
Etc
Etc

He nailed his role in The Firm. And maybe Mitch McDeere's ole lady.

I approve this thread. He's the best actor of all time IMHO.

I saw The Firm for the first time the other day. As soon as it ended I thought how impressive his role was..he is so present and still when acting.

Someone I follow on Twitter posted the shaving scene earlier today. I don't remember the movie, and watching without sound, I had to look it up to confirm Hackman was one of the good guys. At least Little Bill wore a Sheriff's star in Unforgiven.

Eh, it's very rare for legendary actors to go out with a bang. There aren't a lot of great roles available for older actors no matter how good they are. The important thing is that Welcome To Mooseport won't even be a footnote on Hackman's obituary when he passes away. Nobody will even remember it. They'll just remember the countless great performances and movies from his career.

The Royal Tenenbaum's was on the other day. One of those movies I have to watch whenever I see it on.
