Pod
God forgive that after squaring with one of the best fighters in Westeros for a long period of time that he would become average with a sword.
Other than that Pod was pretty much Pod. He didn't even have many lines. Him being able to sing was very much in character.

SFP is melting over Pod’s training paying off and Gilly being a good mother and a good person (her only defining traits)

a. he was likely too old to really develop
b. why was this necessary? it was stupid/silly
again, instead of having a story full of rich, unique characters, D/D, once they ran out of material, made everyone bland and the same. it's black and white. good and evil. and everyone is boring and has to show the importance of their hammy dialogue by over-acting (to the point of almost being camp)
but most of all, in a story running devastatingly short on time, it's wasted to show that unnecessary development in a minor character

SFP is melting
i said before episode one i have no/little expectations for this season. 7 was terrible and set up a shitty scenario that 8 can't fix. D/D have done worse than i imagined they would, but that's marginal at this point (b/c it's just bad. being slightly worse makes no difference)
melting requires expectations. you can't melt when you expect bad

But it keeps people like you and a Billion others watching.

Can anybody explain why they’ve completely cut out the Manderlys in the show? They’re a rather critical house in the books to only have Wyman Manderly say like two words the entire series.
Not necessarily bitching, just curious.

a super major issue is just fan service. D/D are wasting a lot of time making sure everyone gets a part in the episode, whether its pointless or not. also, due to the fan service, all these characters are now super noble and competent. if you want to see the 2 symbols of how shite this episode was (and how bad the show is not), just look at when we first see Pod and Gilly. their characters completely change offscreen and they're both now these super competent heroes, because what made GOT great was simplistic black and white characters with no variety for us to enjoy. now everyone is noble and competent (and we HAVE to see it, even though time has been limited by D/D the past 2 seasons)
That everyone is now noble and competent is not fan service. That’s the way GRRM has been scripting it this whole time. If you have a fatal flaw, you lose the game of thrones. If you are not noble, people will eventually turn on you, and you lose the game of thrones
Here’s a small case study of major characters to die, and why they died:
Ned - too much belief in honor
Rob - broke an oath for love and tried to make amends
Joffrey - was too cruel, everyone was against him
Tywin - he underestimated Tyrion. Fatal flow, believed in pride of his house over everything, and thought Tyrion would as well
Ramsey - too cruel
Littlefinger - underestimated Sansa
The remaining characters had to play the game well, and had to keep people from turning against them. Minus Jon Snow, his people turned on him, but he got lucky that the Red Woman was there
In the end, everyone being noble and competent will be very important. It’s part of the script

You just hate the show now because it became too popular with the public and you’re a hipster

Gonna be honest with you, I don’t think Daenerys plays it particularly well either.

the major event that started this show off was Ned Stark getting killed for being noble. you're 100% wrong
one of the seminal quotes for this show is as follows:
"Rhaegar fought valiantly, Rhaegar fought nobly. And Rhaegar died."
?Jorah Mormont
praising nobility is certainly not what this story was built around. this story was built around much more realistic and human interactions and motivations than the plot armor of being a good guy who learns to be noble. that's what made it such a great story.
now? it's black and white, cookie cutter bullshite. good guys are good and noble. bad guys are bad. rawr

Theon ultimately saved Sansa from Ramsay (the ghost of winterfell) so she has a reason to be grateful but i wouldn’t be running and hugging a guy that betrayed my family and sacked their castle.
The context of that scene, along with the preceding scene where Sansa had just questioned Dany of the plans for the North after the war, gave me the impression that Sansa became emotional only after it was apparent that Dany was familiar with Theon and his sister and then Theon declared that he had returned to fight for Winterfell if Sansa would have him. This seemed like validation to Sansa that someone was there to fight for her and Winterfell instead of getting caught up in Dany’s Spell over others.

I can see this rash criticism turned upside down. What happens to the first two episodes in overall retrospect, in the aftermath, when we learn that many of these fond relationships we've just witnessed rekindled turn into life and death battles between characters who have to react with their lives on the line as many are turned against each other as living against freshly turned members of the Army of the Dead?
