Dude, they are setting up a battle of Mereen with (7) armies (3 slaver cities, Harpies, Unsullied, and Dothraki). They are also setting up the battle of the bastards which will be a multitude of smaller armies (Wildlings, Karstarks, Boltons, Umbers, Manderlys, maybe the Vale). Then they have the Dornish getting ready to march on KL plus the possible matchup of Hound vs Mountain.
shite like this just doesn't happen. They have to move the pieces around to set it up. Sometimes that'll be slow and tedious, but you need the info to make it make sense.

they are setting up

Can the Hodors even comprehend the Grand Northern Conspiracy? This is why i doubt, SJU was setting a trap for Ramsey.
But he is a new character to them; so I doubt they would be able to decipher all seven aspects of the theory.
But dammit Winter is Coming and the North Remembers.

now this army is backed by the Karstarks as well. which was a 1/3rd of Robb's original northern calvary.
I didn't realize that the Karstarks made up a 3rd of Robb's calvary. But I still figured that the Umbers, Manderlys, and the Mormonts plus the Wildlings would be pretty close to the numbers of the Boltons & Karstarks. But maybe I'm overestimating the numbers of the Umbers & the Manderlys.

What, are you stoopid or something?
Yeah, Jon rising from the dead was just filler.
Roose getting kilt, filler.
Arya becoming a talented killer, even without eyes, more filler.
Knowing that the Red Witch is crazy old with saggy titties... ok, could have done without that part.
Tyrion unchaining the dragons and not getting burned, filler.
Mother fricking Tower of Joy, just stupid pointless filler which added nothing except for MOTHERfrickING EVERYTHING!!!
shite, so much has happened I can't recall it all, but it was all filler.

By that logic, everything but the series finale would be "filler"

Yeah, Jon rising from the dead was just filler.

Remember the seasons where kings died, battles were fought, characters torn apart, sex, boobs, even scheming?
I wasn't even complaining about it. Just calling it what it is.

It may not be moving as fast as you'd like but saying nothing has happened is oversimplifying things. They have to tell the story with some nuance. I don't see how you could reasonably expect episode 1-3 to have as much resolution as episode 8-9.

I agree with that take on the Umber plot except...
Shaggy Dog
Rickon is a Stark. He would've hated it, but he would have sanctioned the sacrifice to ensure the success of taking back WFell.
and Shaggy Dog turning up alive is just a little Scooby Doo for GoT.

quote:I'm not expecting resolution. The show is following a story that doesn't have an end yet. Even the books don't have true endings. In 3 eps what we've got is 3 dead guys whose deaths only mean that their heirs continue doing what they've been doing, one guy back alive, Dany doing was Dany has done for 4 years, Arya doing what Arya has done for 2 years, Varys and Tyrion doing what they've done for 4 years but in a different part of the world, and a couple dragons let go... for nothing?

I don't know yet. It doesn't make a lot of sense if it isn't. Show readers only really know 4 prominent houses under the Starks - Boltons, Karstarks, Umbers and Mormonts. It's always implied the Mormonts are a small house. Hodors know almost nothing of the Manderlys (I think mentioned a couple of times, at most on the show) or their importance and leadership in the GNC.
If the Umbers aren't split, but in fact are all in for the Boltons, along with the Boltons themselves AND the Karstarks - there isn't a GNC at all in the show, just a piddling left-wing insurgency - at best. Yeah, Jon is bringing down a wildling army, but the north isn't going to rally except the other way... (unless SJU is executing his part of the Manderly's plan now).

Did Wendel Manderly die in the series at the red wedding? I forget.

Yes. His bones were sent back to White Harbor.

On the show he did? When was it mentioned that his bones were sent back to White Harbor on the show?
