That quote is from a big article that's being release tommorow about how much effort they put into this whole "JON snow is dead" charade. Which is hilarious that they are going to pat themselves on the back for something they did so poorly a job of
To be fair, book readers have had way too much time to analyze and reevaluate the story and come to the conclusion that Jon was coming back.
Most show only people were probably pretty sure he was dead. I know in my own experience, most show only thought he was dead for sure. Only the few that were exposed to the internet got the idea that he could come back.

Books have nothing to do with it. If anything the show made it more obvious he was coming back. 2 episodes before he was murked, they showed him killing a Walker with his sword and having an epic stare down with the nights king. Anyone half awake knew his story wasn't done. His death would've eliminated the entire storyline perspective of the north. No one bought that he was dead. It was a wasteful effort

Well like I said, most people I knew who watched the show only thought he was dead.
Don't forget they have had to deal with Ned, Red Wedding, etc.
All major characters who appeared to have a lot of story left, snuffed out without warning.

The ONLY time GoT really got me was Ned. I thought he was a main character

Yep. This was the moment I knew I was going to read the books. I went out and got them within a couple days after that scene.

That Ned scene I was waiting for an army of soldiers concealed in the crowd to storm the stage and save the day ala Costner's Robin Hood. Nope. Ned lost his head and I was like "WTF? Holy shite!"

D&D right before Jon was resurrected

Same here. Red Wedding just pissed me off

I read the books immediately after the second season finished. When I got to the Red Wedding in A Storm of Swords I almost threw my book at the wall. I was PISSED.

quote: You could either see it as JON was in purgatory because the Lord of Light wasn't done with him, or that it proves the Lotd of light has been nothing more than black magic this whole time Considering he considers himself an atheist or agnostic, I'm betting GRRM is going to show that all of these gods are not the source of these powers, but that it is just magic. It's why he made it such a big point to have Thoros say that he raised Beric for the first time even though he had been suffering from a lack of faith for a long time. And D&D in turn had Melisandre raise Jon when she had lost total faith.
I kinda agree that in that world there is a sort of ambient magic that some people are able to tap into. And that any personification or personalities they assign to it come from humans themselves - either the ones tapping into the magic or others. I mean, did a big firey being appear to Melisandre and say verbally "Go burn an innocent young girl and I'll melt some snow for you" or did she come up with that through her "interpretations" of what she saw in the flames?
Of course if they establish that Jon was conscious and that he was just kind of aware that he was floating there in total blackness or something, I think that might not be terribly far off from the picture of an afterlife from some religions: a kind of limbo or hades or sheol or purgatory as said above.

Lol. I immediately thumbed through the rest of the book to see if there was another Arya chapter. I loved her in the books and was afraid she was dead also.

Yep...Same thing for me. I was frantic flipping through "pages" trying to find an Arya chapter. This, of course, after I slammed my iPad on the bed in anger.

So he'll fall on his arse while trying to lead his team to an SEC West Championship?

What do you mean "trying?" They do have that banner that says he more than "tried." Hahaha.

Are we going to find out why Hodor says Hodor?
Might just be me, but I don't look into this at all. I mean according to old Nan it's just the random word he started saying. So many people think there is some kind of meaning behind every little thing. He's a simple person that says one word, it just happens to be Hodor. And that's the explanation.
Ole boy just wants to get laid. He's constantly asking people to take him to the ho door, but no one understands.

In most "religious" themes, it takes faith to perform miracles, and a person loses their ability when they lose their faith. Yet GRRM chose to go the opposite route here. Again, I think it'll turn out to be GRRM getting "preachy" with us. I hope I'm wrong.
Imagine traveling back to a time before people knew about CPR. Someone drowns and you bring them back with actions no one has ever seen before. It might be easy to convince them of the existence of a Drowned God.
