I also don't think he was killed. When he finally showed up at the games, Dany asked what was taking him so long. He said "I was just making sure everything was ready".

I thought that was a dead give away.

To do it right I think they have to establish not only that Kevan is running shite but that he's doing a good job of it and that to leave him in charge would interfere with Vary's plans.

They could probably do it in one episode but it would feel rushed (to me at least). Although I think if it was something kind of simple and straightforward like Kevan brokering a deal to unite the Lannisters and Martels (ie: making sure the marriage of Myrcella and whatshisname goes forward) that would probably be enough to prompt Varys to act.

Someone on the Watchers on The Wall site posted an alleged quote by one of the actresses who play a Sand Snake to the effect that something that happens in ep. 10 would be game changing and that the Sand Snakes are involved in it. The poster didn't cite a source though so I'm not sure how much weight to give it.

That scene needs to happen at the end of this season or the beginning of the next. i don't see it taking place after Cersei's trial by combat which will probably happen at the beginning of next season. Varys needs to reemerge and episode 10 is perfect. This finale with have a shitload of cliffhangers. Everyone will be pissed. It will be glorious.

Yep, I watched the episode today and it's pretty obvious the writers are just going for shock & awe at this point. But I have to say that other than the herp/derp with Shireen, I enjoyed the rest of the episode. They telegraphed the sacrifice and at least they didn't show the actual burning; the scene and the screams were brutal though. I was hoping that R'hllor would reject the sacrifice since Shireen had greyscale and take Stannis instead.
