I would also like to add I think I was really close on my body count prediction this episode.

A lot of those guys could have survived in the Mereen burn unit. Until you provide bodies, you get no credit.

How does Jon get resurrected if Melisandre is with Stannis?

Stannis makes them look like Atticus Finch by comparison.

WTH is with everyone's over reaction to Stannis' sacrifice of Shereen? OML's reaction borders on the comical.

Craster is beyond a doubt 10X worse than Stannis. Craster rapes his daughters and sets his son's out to be turned into inhuman creatures by others.

Stannis, out of desperation, sacrificed his daughter to his god because he thought that is what his god wanted.

Think back to the Old Testament, any parallels? Think to today's middle east. Any parallels? Our history is rife with parallel stories to exactly what Stannis did. Stannis loved Shereen but made the difficult decision he thought required to potentially save all of humanity.

Yes, it was unsettling but not unheard of.

BTW: NOBODY IS COMPLETELY GOOD OR EVIL!!! It's a central theme of the whole ASOIAF work. Stannis included.

There is an easy litmus test to settle Stannis's motivation. Selfish, or for the good of the realm? Here is the question...

If Mel asked him to sacrifice himself to give Jon the power to destroy the others, would he do it?

this episode ruined it and made Stannis out to be an even bigger monster.

Stannis is HUMAN. Human's kill their children daily here on earth in 2015. Many of them do it because they think "the gods demand it". Stannis is neither good nor evil, just human.

Stannis is aware of the true threat. He doesn't have the luxury of planning a dynasty. He sees himself as the only one capable of saving the living. He sacrificed his daughter for every living soul in his mind.

In the show atleast, they haven't shown Stannis to truly appreciate the threat north of the wall

I think it's a little cheap to let him off easy because it's supposed to be for "all humanity" to beat the WW when in fact he's marching away from that war and into another one that's irrelevant

He appreciated it enough to loan his fleet of ships to John and endorsed the plan to give the wildings land south of the wall in return for their support. He is the only one in the royal line who is looking north of the wall.

Interesting that GRRM is the one that actually suggested killing Shireen. Benioff and Weiss had nothing to do with that actually.

Their support for his claim to the throne. Not vs the army of the dead (show wise)

Based on the whole season Hodor threads, the more likely reaction to Jon's death would be

"GAY EPISODE. NOTHING HAPPENED. JON GETS KILLED BY A KID? WORST EPISODE OF TELEVISION EVER"

vhagar was the beast during the dance of dragons had Rhaenaerys not had Daemon Aegon 2 would have wrecked shite and kept the iron throne. But since Daemon was such a bad arse we now had pretty much extinct dragons for 170 years.

im exhausted after reading the entire 35 pages of this thread...

So Dany leaves Tyrion, Jorah, and Douchebag in Mereen with an army of unsullied and 2 pissed off dragons.

Surely Tyrion gets in good with them next season and joins up with her. Unless they have her come back and pick him up.

Maybe Jorah gives douchebag the grayscale?
