He borrowed from the bank of Braavos. Convinced them that Tywin was holding everything together and he's old. When he goes, the debt owed to the Bank is in jeopardy. Convinced them to bet on the right horse...him.

Don't know about the north business. Witchy-woman?

I agree that the red titty witch staring Jon down means she senses something about him.

When that happened, I was like "Well, I guess there's your 'fire and ice'."

So "A Song of Fire and Ice" can mean any number of things:

Jon Snow/Red titty witch (I'm glad you called her that, btw)
Dany's dragons (Bran?)/White walkers
Dragons/"winter"
Any combination of those things.

My post wasn't directed at you, but at all the hodors who just happen to know so much about the theories behind Jon's origins, which had never been dicussed on the show to the point that viewers can guess lyanna stark and a targaryen were the parents.

Actually I figured he was Robert and Lynna's son. But after reading other posts, Targaryan makes more sense.

So does Stannis have his own music? The music playing when he got off the horse with Daavos was the same that played after he told that guy during blackwater that thousands would die.

Just curious, but what would make you think that? And I mean solely based on the show?

And I'm not saying it can't be deduced, just wondering how. People notice/remember shite from the show better than I do all the time. But all of a sudden this "Jon Snow heritage" thing seems to be a huge deal, and aside from maybe a line or two from early in season one, there hasn't really been much (if anything) on the show that has even remotely touched on that. Yet it's all people can talk about. That had to come from somewhere else.

Yeah, it makes me feel like that this Jon Snow heritage thing is the next big thing that happens in the books so people are bringing it up now.

Yeah his usually stands out to me, you always hear it when they're showing him and/or Melisandre

From my post on the previous page, the NYT recap:

quote:

Stannis looked quite comfortable at Castle Black, which must have seemed like Palm Springs compared with Dragonstone. Melisandre, however, gave Jon Snow the stink-eye through the flames. The red priestess has a nose for royal blood — could this be the biggest clue yet that Jon Snow’s Stark pedigree isn’t exactly what he or we have been led to believe? When Ygritte told him last week, with her dying words, that “you know nothing, Jon Snow,” it seemed to be for our benefit as much as his.

So yes, why the stink eye? Has to be another of Robert's bastards. But why did Ned take him? It's his nephew. Has to be.

Then when I read this board and saw the references to Targaryan, I thought no way. Too dark. But then if he's Robert's son, Ned would have been protecting him as a possible heir when he learned of the incestuous canoodling. So that leaves Targaryan, if Snow isn't Ned's.

the NYT recap

So, in other words, not just from the show and likely written by someone familiar with book information.

FWIW, she was just looking at Jon Snow, and he was looking at her...there was no "stink eye." That's just someone trying to clue people in the right direction IMO.

Yeah, Rhaegar Targ Lyanna Stark haven't been mentioned at all since Season 1. Any speculation involving them is drawing from something beyond what has actually been on the show.

Based on what we've actually seen, Jon Snow being Robert or Stannis' bastard would be more realistic.

Now that I think about it, it's possible Jon is Robert's. maybe Ned sent or encouraged Jon to go to the Wall knowing he'd be protected there best and that there was trouble brewing in King's Landing. I dunno. Spitballing

It's not. No one knows.

As far as the theory, does anyone really think that Robert would be the kind of person to hide his child that he had with the woman that he loves? I think it would be more likely that he'd tell the Lannisters to frick off and deal with it, rather than hide his child from them (if the child was for Lyanna).

I still contend that if Jon isn't Ned's, why wouldn't he tell Catelyn that he was someone else's kid and that Ned was protecting him? Seems like Catelyn legitimately believed he was Ned's kid, and thus why she hated him so much.

I mean shite, the show literally tells us that he's Ned's bastard...just hides who his mother is.

There's nothing from the recap suggesting the writer is a book reader. Like all shows I really like, I read recaps and here to pick up things I missed. For example I totally missed where Tyrion found Shai.
