Wasn't it a lot more crowded in the book?
I feel like everything is more crowded in the book.. It's been one of my only complaints that the show has over exaggerated the scale of all the castles, but once inside everything seems so tiny.. it's like they were too cheap to use CGI to make crowds bigger and on a larger scale. Same can be said for castle black. Outside looks like a walmart distribution center.. inside looks like half a boy scout troop.
It doesn't take away from the story for me, just wish they would scale up the crowds a bit.

Gregor fights using a longsword with one hand.
Gregor fights in his usual style - with heavy armor, his thick oaken shield and his greatsword in one hand - but Oberyn outfights him with speed and a poisoned spear. Though most of Oberyn's attacks are deflected by Gregor's plate, Oberyn cleverly attacks the joints in the armor, and eventually wounds Clegane after the Mountain tires from chasing Oberyn. After being poisoned and crippled by numerous wounds, Clegane manages to grab hold of Oberyn and crush him to death. Before killing Oberyn, however, Gregor roars that he killed Elia and Aegon for all to hear.[3] LINK

From my reading of the fight, it seems as if Oberyn defeated Gregor more easily in the book than he did on the show.
That was not my impression considering the book account, Oberyn's spear could not penetrate Gregor's thick armor. The armor Gregor wore in the movie depiction was NOT thick plate armor; looked more like studded leather that the spear easily penetrated.

I was pretty disappointed in the way the fight scene played out to be honest. Hard to meet the expectations after so many weeks of show build up and the image I had in my head while reading.

Because she lied one time? Really?
Not hardly.
Because she caught him with his pants around his ankles and now has the advantage. She knows that he poisoned Joffrey, planned her escape from King's Landing (so at the very least he's an accomplice in her perceived crimes), poisoned Jon Arryn, and killed Lysa. Now that the lords of the Vale know her true identity, she no longer needs Little Finger to guarantee her survival. Now Littlefinger is alive because Sansa chooses to keep him alive; he's effectively at her disposal.

I can see not being completely satisfied, but not sure how someone could be dissapointed. It was pretty much spot on.

It's sometimes hard to remember what happened in the book as opposed to what happened on the show. But if I'm remembering correctly, wasn't Tywin more about blaming Amory Lorch and not the Mountain in the book? Therefore, the Mountain's acknowledgment that he did the killing of Elia and her son carried some weight. While in the show, seems like I remember Tywin was blaming the Mountain anyway. So Gregor's acknowledgment didn't shed much light especially since he didn't implicate Tywin.

With respect to Gregor's armor, I have to imagine that the TV people tried the scene with plate armor and a shield and determined that it was too difficult to shoot properly and may have looked ridiculous on TV anyway. Books don't always translate to film very well.

I guess I have a high standard - and disappointment was also due to the multi-week build up of the show, just felt it was a bit of a let down in the end.

At the end of the day this is the whole book vs TV/movie argument. I think most of us prefer getting to use our own imagination as opposed to the imagination of some director whom we don't know. Let me add that the show wasted valuable minutes on the Grey Worm-Missandei romance and the beetle scene, which led up to the fight.

The battle was what I expected...and Oberyn getting his head smashed in....dayummmmmm. It's one thing reading about it...but seeing it happen. I literally screamed/wasn't expecting it to be that gory

This.
Anyone saying they are disappointed with any of the major deaths in the show is being way too picky.

or, they could have just like formed an opinion based on what they saw.
Also don't think this really counts as a "major" death. I just don't think the actual scene delivered on the multi week / multi show build up.

not quite sure what more you wanted...

after the multi-week build up something a little longer, more drawn out fight generating more tension, perhaps a grander scale. Just didn't live up to they hype the show had put it up to IMO. it was fine, didn't blow me away though.

I'm counting Eddard, Red Wedding, Joffrey, Oberyn and Tywin as major deaths through the first four seasons. The fact that they've done each one justice in my mind up to this point gives me faith that I won't be disappointed in the Tywin scene.
And I say this is a major death because of the impact it has on the audience. Every book reader knew that this would be an entertaining episode for watching Hodor reactions. I find it hard to believe anyone just thought "meh" while reading or watching.

its been almost 4 years since I finished that book so I had forgotten the brutality of the Mountain's finishing move..
I knew he bashed his head in but my God, how anyone could be disappointed with that scene is beyond me. My GF was in the other room and hates violence. She yelled to me to see if I was done watching the show during that fight. I ran to the door and locked it so she wouldn't see what was about to happen.
You can't have a 10 minute 1v1 fight scene in a movie that doesn't look like CGI crap. I thought they did a great job showing how the match went down and why the viper wanted it to happen.

got you, that makes sense. I just didn't consider Oberyn a huge character in the long run, but certainly was a major death the way you categorized it.

Yep. And I may need to go back to that chapter one more time, but it wasn't like Martin was incredibly detailed with each person's moves and how Oberyn was twirling the spear around like a baton. IIRC, that fight was at most 3 pages long.
