If the king had no legitimate children, next in line would be his (kings) brother.

HBO Go to get ep 7 a week early

quote:

The executive [HBO co-president Eric Kessler] on Tuesday also said that HBO Go will exclusively make available the following week’s episode of new HBO hit Game of Thrones right after the May 22 episode, which ends with a cliffhanger that Kessler said will entice fans to immediately see what happens next. The move is part of a plan to offer exclusive content windows on HBO Go to “encourage registration” of users for the service, he said.

Interesting. Hopefully the servers can handle it. I wouldn't want to watch the next episode in low quality with lots of pauses while it buffers.

True and the show has introduced one of the King's brothers, Renley.

Yes they have.

Now, to take it a bit further, the rule of succession (typically) says that the throne goes to the oldest trueborn male heir. That would usually mean the oldest son. If the king doesnt have a son, it would go to his eldest brother, if no brother it could go to an uncle or nephew.

If none of the above exist, usually a king can name (handpick) an heir. Basically name the next king in his will. Historically that has caused power struggles becasue of other people trying to claim a greater right to the throne than the hand picked heir.

For those that care ratings were up very slightly in the US, and 26% in the UK. They are gaining viewers, which obviously, is spectacular news.

Loved that scene....
I just don't understand the whole Wall training storyline.

I understand that they think the one in charge is a dick but he doesn't seem any worse than a drill leader.. he even tells an old war (Winter) story to show why he is toughening them up...

Of course the royalty gets picked on a little more but it just doesn't seem extreme to me....

Love the Sam character but I think they should train him with a long range weapon..

def agree that they portrayed Thorne a lot more sympathetic in the show than he is in the books, and it doesn't make as much sense to have Jon rebelling against him in the show.

Very true, from a viewers point he is simply trying to train them and toughen them up to face the harsh situations of being on the nights watch and Jon is undermining that.

i dont really understand this marketing ploy (since thats what it is). in order to get hbo go, you must have hbo. so the people interested in getting ep 7 a week early are already customers.

is this just a way to say, hey heres a little reward for your service and also a way to promote hbo go?

It's to drive existing viewers to HBOGo.

The more subscribers they can impress with HBOGo... the more non-subscribers will hear about it and sign up.

It's indirect marketing.

Loving the series... its been a long time a 1hr show feels like 20min.

My schedule is erratic and the only access to HBO is my present hotel room so I just ordered the book set on amazon for $20

Wise move. Best $20 you'll ever spend on entertainment.

my plan to read behind the series went by the way-side after a bout of insomnia led me to read past episode 3 right after I saw episode 3 and the book got so good, I had to go on and finish it. The books are definitely page-turners, and hard to put down, and now I am nearly done with the second one. As a newbie to this series, my advice to those who have been asking about reading the books or waiting would be to either read behind the show or wait until at least the end of THIS season and pick it up because this is an EXCELLENTLY well-done show and though I am really loving the books, I am a little sad that THIS close to the end of the season, I know how it's going to turn out (I can see how those who read these books when they first came out might have a different perspective). If the show continues to follow the book very faithfully, there are major developments in the story that I think would be best experienced fresh by show-watchers if that's how you came to this series first (hope that's clear). I don't think it would lessen your enjoyment of the book at all.

i just caught up and passed the series in the first book. i REALLY want to read further but I'm going to hold off...i love both the show and the book so far, though! it's hard for me to put the book down and I don't want the show to end when I'm watching...
