I added the interactive HBO map to the first post for everyone.

HBO’s Game of Thrones inched upward in the ratings for the second week in a row.
The 9 p.m. airing was seen by 2.5 million viewers, up slightly from last week’s 2.4 million. This is yet another positive sign for the fantasy series, climbing in the numbers despite the show’s story pace lessening a bit the previous week. The show’s action kicks into high gear starting on Sunday’s fifth episode, which could result in Thrones gaining even more traction in the weeks to come, just like True Blood its first year.
More to come…

Thats great news!
Indeed. I'm really enjoying this series so far. The plot is intriguing and the actors seem to be well cast. I've always liked Sean Bean and Peter Dinklage is brilliant as Tyrion. Lena Heady creates an excellent evil queen. Michelle Fairley us an equally good Lady Stark. Really just a fine overall cast.

I'm pretty sure only a King (and I guess maybe the high septon) can legitimize a bastard. Of the two instances that I remember from the books, both were done by kings.
I can think of a specific example where the father made a bastard his heir. I hesitate to name the name in this thread though.

Name it in the book thread.

I strongly disagree. Heady is the perfect attractive bitch queen to be paired with the king's personality. On the other hand, the older more plain Michelle Fairley seems near ideal as the devoted wife of Eddard Stark.

having seen the actual cast first, and since they're all doing such a bang-up job in the roles (and having seen two or three shows PRIOR to starting to read the books), it's hard to imagine anyone else in those roles... but their idea for Littlefinger wasn't a bad one. They ought to find a role for Gaius Baltar in an upcoming season!

He's too great of a comedic actor to play Stannis or Balon Greyjoy but he would fit in well with this cast.
How about the Greyjoy priest brother.
Or Mance Rayder.

GoT newb here!
Caught up on Episodes 1-2 OnDemand and set my dvr for the rest of the series. Watched Episode 3 last night.
This series is awesome. A lil confusing at times with the names, places, back stories and such, but overall I'm really enjoying it and looking forward to how the characters and the storylines develop.
To me the most interesting character would be Jon, the Bastard, and his quest to see what's beyond the Wall.
I'm very curious to see if The Others have any role in the future of this storyline. I think it would be badass if they Seven Kingdoms had to defend themselves as one.
I also would do terrible terrible things to Daenerys.
I plan to buy the books soon. Paperback Books 1-4 Set. $23 on Amazon.
thanks to all the others with quality input into this thread. I'm only on page 12, but wanted to say thanks before I go home for the day.
my favorite post so far:

Game of Thrones is fricking badass. It's set in a land called Westeros, where a bunch of families rule different parts of it and they kill each other for sport. There's a big Wall in the north part of Westeros that holds back hordes of undead. There's titties and beheadings everywhere. You can't trust anybody not to screw you or kill you in Westeros. If they're not killing you, they probably want to screw you. If they're screwing you, it's only until they can kill you and get away with it. There's a chick across the sea who wants to come back to Westeros and rule as Queen. She has world-class booty that you could eat Neapolitan ice cream off of. There is a dwarf. There are puppies. People die a lot. Game of Thrones, bitch!

Does anyone know what bok sales have done since the series started?

I googled it the other week but didn't see reliable info. I was at B&N this weekend and they had a display at front of the store. Sean Bean was on cover and it appeared about half the books on the stand were gone. Take it fwiw.

My aunt works at Barnes & Nobles and obviously they did a reprint of the books with the HBO series covers...she said they've been flying off the shelf.

Wait, Americans are reading books that are written at higher than a sixth grade level? I call shenanigans.

Thanks. That made things much more clear for the wife and me since we did not read the books nor do we intend to.
