There is more to it than just the infidelity (which is a big motivator). You guys let me know if you think this is too spoilery, I don't think it is as it isn't part of the main novels.
There are several examples in the books and real history where bastards or their heirs make a claim to family inheritance (most notably the Blackfyre rebelion, but there are other examples). Cat is worried that either John, or more likely his descendants, will come back to challange her own descendants for the rights to Winterfell and the power that comes with it. For Cat, family is everything and she views John as a threat to her family.
It's both IMO. She is very worried about Jon usurping Rob or descendant's doing the same.
She also despises Jon b/c his presence is a reminder of Ned's indescretion and Ned never opened up to her about Jon, his mother, or any of the events surrounding that time. She is excluded from Ned in that. She views Jon's existence as an insult to her IMO.

It seems pretty normal in their world for a powerful man to have bastards but they're generally just expected to provide for them and maybe take them into some sort of service when they're of age. Actually bringing one into the household as a baby and raising him alongside the legitimate children seems to be somewhat unusual.

I think this thread should be changed to a "For those who have read the books" thread, and another thread made for those who have not. There's just too much discussion going on here of what happens in the books, what the differences are, spoilers.
And yes, I've read them. I started reading SoIaF in 99.

the first two episodes have really made me want to pick up the books except for the fact that i'm halfway through the Dark Tower series.

Yes. The second one in particular.

You can read them whenever you want, they take place way before The Game of Thrones starts.

this is great... I love where they explain that most of the characters that come off as evil can be regarded as having baggage or a backstory "whereas Joffrey is just a dick"

Yeah that part made me chuckle.

Right, that's what I was trying to say. Maybe I didn't do the best job.

Episode 3 Preview

Arriving at King's Landing after his long journey, Ned is shocked to learn of the Crown's profligacy from his new advisors. At Castle Black, Jon Snow impresses Tyrion at the expense of greener recruits. Suspicious that the Lannisters had a hand in Bran's fall, Catelyn covertly follows her husband to King's Landing, where she is intercepted by Petyr Baelish, aka "Littlefinger," a shrewd longtime ally and brothel owner. Cersei and Jaime ponder the implications of Bran's recovery; Arya studies swordsmanship. On the road to Vaes Dothrak, Daenerys finds herself at odds with Viserys.

a Florida man got so heated over 'Game of Thrones' he threw his cousin out of a window.
he was just reenacting the Jaime-throwing-Bran-from-the-broken-tower-scene. That's *true* fandom. HBO should give them passes to the season 2 premier...
