People can shite on that show all they want. I have always enjoyed it.
It was Prime in its time. Huge. It just doesn’t age well because it was 90s trendy with the fashion and writing - it is dated.
Now, as mid-late 90s retro comes into style it has made a good comeback.

Friends was never funny WITH the laugh track. Why would it be funny without it?
How dare you?!?
How can you say that? Weren't you in college then or just out?

Do laugh tracks / audience laughter condition us to think that things are funny?
I'm not sure why anyone is surprised that a show's jokes come off horribly when you remove audience laughter. The actors are forced to pause for the audience so a conversation that flows naturally is impossible to do. Friends actually did shoot in front of a live studio audience so it's not like the jokes weren't landing when people first saw it. You just have to look at that kind of show as more of a recorded play than a scripted show w/o the laugh track. If you took audience reactions out of a play or a stand up set and left pauses in it would be weird as frick too.
Also, we still have laugh track like pauses in a lot of shows. Now it's just mainly done via talking head segment or the actor breaking the fourth wall and looking at the camera w/Jim face.

No, I was a small child, but I rewatched episodes of friends in syndication on cable as an adult and I have never cared for it. I greatly prefer Seinfeld, Scrubs, Fraiser, That 70’s Show, Arrested Development, Fresh Prince of Bel-Air, and Malcom in the Middle from that same era

Deadwood with a laugh track is the goat but unfortunately HBO got their panties in a wad and removed it from existence on the Web.
The scene where Swearingin and Dan are trying to figure out the drawing with the laugh track added is still one of the funniest things I've ever seen.

This is why youtube channels hire laughers to laugh at their stuff.

Live audience vs laugh track are two different things. Watch BBT and you will hear one of three tracks. Little laughter, medium laughter, lots of laughter. Seinfeld and Friends were live with natural reactions.

I don't find any show with a laugh track funny

I just saw a commercial with Lisa Kudrow and Courtney Cox for some little online game app. It's a shame what CC did to her face but LK has held up surprisingly well.

It is honestly unbelievable. I could not believe she turned into the Joker when she did. Mental illness with her

Makes me sad. She didn’t have to.
She was a short-list dime in her prime. Beautiful southern woman
