They're trying too hard to make David a clone of his dad.

Loved the original series. We checked in on the second episode of the reboot and checked out after about 10 minutes. The acting from the other cast members was on an 8th grade play level, and the laugh track was ridiculous.

I haven’t watched the new show but this thread inspired me to watch the first 3 episodes of the original series last night for the first time since they aired

I had forgotten how they hit the ground running with a character that was basically a sadsack punchline in cheers. Laugh out loud funny from the jump

Pretty damn amazing

Watched episode three tonight. It’s had a few great scenes with Frasier showing clips from the 1st then 13th seasons of his show, and then with Freddie’s reaction to Frasier potentially quitting Harvard…he seemed to channel his TV grandfather with that one.

The lowlight of the show thus far has been David. They are trying to hard to make him ….something. I’m not sure if it’s a “clone” of Niles exactly or what. The scenes with him arguing with the neighbor girl in the class had a cringe quality to them.

Overall, I think the show is on the right course. Still an enjoyable episode. Look forward to next week.

They’re trying to make him a combination of Niles and Daphne and it’s not working at all. On the bright side, Freddy seems to be solid and should play off Frasier well.

I guess they're trying to make the black chick at Harvard like Bebe (his crazy agent from the early seasons)?

I actually like the interplay between her and Frasier’s professor friend. It is at time reminiscent of Carla/Cliff or Roz/Niles. Her sibling rivalry is obviously a call back to Niles and Frasier.

Looks from the previews like they are going to have some more interaction between Frasier and Freddie’s work colleagues coming too.

I’m not sure if ironic is the correct word,
but my biggest gripe with this show might turn out to be if it remains a 10-episode a season streaming only series.

In episode three I thought for sure they were gearing up for a guest appearance by Bebe.

It would have been an easy addition.

I think it’s already confirmed Lilith will appear.

Niles and Daphne presumably live in Seattle.

After Sam and Woody’s appearances in Frasier, I don’t think they’ll show up.

I’d bet a dollar we see Cliff and Norm. Not sure the writers would have the balls to actually send Frasier to Cheers.

Maybe they’ll have a special dinner and Freddy will take them to the reopened Hungry Heifer over Frasier’s recommendation for Melville’s.

We know Melville’s survived Cheers because Shirley went there in Boston Legal.

I’m still loving it. The laugh track is a little much. Kind of Nickelodeon-ish.

Episode 4

They went with a joke about Frasier not knowing how to pronounce Celtics.

That can’t be true. The Celtics were mentioned every time he went inside Cheers.

Carla would kick his arse.

And you know, that one poorly written/thought out joke pretty much put a damper on the whole episode. Honestly,
someone involved in the show (including Kelsey himself) had to say (in Frasier’s voice) “oh for God’s sake Kevin McHale tended bar at Cheers once”! and nip that joke in the bud.

The “haha the dumb guy has a hidden affinity for culture” but was a little played out. I thought the subplot with David and the bike was actually clever in its use of dialog to foster the misunderstanding and keep the joke going.

Overall, I thought this was the worst episode so far of the new run. Hopefully it was just a blip and not the start of a trend.

The David character is the weakest on the show, but there was a moment when he was riding the bike in the credits scene that I thought “that’s Niles’ kid,” so they have that going for them.

This weeks episode was the best use of the David character thus far in my opinion. They had a plot about him asking the neighbor Eve out, and asking for Freddy’s approval. It plays out humorously, as the two of them decide to “coach” him on how to properly talk to women. For good or bad, it seems that they are going to push a Freddy-Eve relationship at some point.

The other main plot involved Frasier and his work colleagues being invited to join the “Founders club” at Harvard, with a typical Frasier-type comic episode about trying overly hard to be accepted and acknowledged. There was a solid Cheers reference between Frasier and Alan in the basement wine cellar scene. Olivia had a few good Siri talk to text jokes.

The show is obviously not going to be as good as the original Frasier or Cheers because overall, the level of acting or writing just isn’t there…though I can see with time it might develop. But KG’s timing and comfort in the role certainly makes it well worth watching. Its value goes well beyond simple nostalgia.

There are five episodes left in the season. Supposedly both Lillith and Roz are supposed to appear later on this season.

Saw the latest episode.

It’s a traditional “misunderstanding” where Eve has agreed to set both Frasier and Freddie up on blind dates, which happen to be on the same night, and meeting at the apartment.

One of the two dates is “late” and Frasier and Freddie both meet the first date and seem to connect with her, and neither is sure who she was intended for. Since Eve is conveniently in a play, she can’t answer to clarify.

I won’t spoil the rest of the “humor” as it were. My take is that this would be a solid episode in a 20+ episode season, but in the shorter window they had to add more character exposition about Freddie to make the “plot” more meaningful, and therefore had to rush the comedy.

I’d also say that the “talent” level wasn’t up to the old Frasier’s standards and the dialog which included Freddie making “4 errors” in a softball game was not realistic….but I digress…

The episode did focus almost entirely on Freddie and Frasier, aside from a scene to set up at the bar and a brief shot of the play. No David, thank goodness. Alan and Olivia were there briefly, and continue to evolve as supporting characters.

I thought it was a solid episode and the plot was very old school Frasier.

Episode 7 out….it’s Freddie’s birthday and therefore….

The return of Lilith!!!

Obviously, the original run of Frasier was highlighted any time Dr. Sternin showed up.It had a few absolutely great moments this go around, and recaptured a lot of the magic.

I liked the banter between Alan (who is the breakout character of the new show, imo) and Lilith as well.

I know some will say that in the last season of the old Frasier that he and Lilith seemed
to bury the hatchet, of course, it’s possible they did only to have some other events start the feud again - or maybe as this episode suggests, the bickering is just the nature of their relationship.

David showed up in a limited role.
Firefighters Moose and Tiny were around for comic relief. Eve, as usual, provided the sound advice.

A very enjoyable episode with a good bit of nostalgia.

Damn, I never thought the Lilith actress would look old. Older, yes, but not straight up old.
