Batman is the only character that fits in with Zack Snyder's dark and gloomy approach.
If DC limited Snyder to Batman and Batman only and kept him well away from Superman and the rest of the Justice League (who are colorful characters unlike Batman) and forced him to work with a talented writer like Paul Dini for example, Snyder would be in a much better place today.

Didn’t help that they gave the director 48 hours to write the movie and told him they 1. Wanted the Joker to be tattooed and 2. Different than every other Joker 3. “As Millennial as possible”.
Can’t remember the director of SS right now but dude was set up to fail and got less than 20% of what he wanted to be in the movie in the movie.

What's strange to me is that Watchmen and 300 were really well done, and I thought had more moments of human warmth or even lightheartedness than any of the DC movies that followed. I don't know how you take classic icons like Superman and Wonder Woman to the big screen and decide, "we don't want anyone watching this to have too much fun or enjoyment."

I feel like if the director pointed Leto in another direction, he could be a great joker. The way he went in suicide squad was terrible.

it's more Leto than the director. We can all argue about Nicholson versus Ledger for first and second best Joker but we all agree there's about 1000 feet of shite and then there's Leto down there in last place.
