I don't either. Looks too much like Japanese manga.

Yeah. Should've went with something closer to Legend of Vox Machina.

Boyens and screenwriter Phoebe Gittins expanded on Tolkien’s original story. In particular, they wanted to give a certain character her own name.

I think this would go over better if audiences were given the original story, and then expanded into an additional series/animated film that covered the side characters.

quote:

This is the upcoming anime film that Jackson is executive producing that comes out December 13th. My initial thought is it looks a little too Sailor Moon for me, but I may be wrong.

I'm curious to see how fluid the action scenes are. That can truly make or break an action anime for me. It feels like, which some exceptions, they really hit their peak in the 80s (exceptions being Season 1 of One Punch Man, Neon Genesis Evangelion, and some others).

quote:

The new story is set nearly 200 years before Bilbo Baggins comes into contact with the ring of power, and centers on the House of Helm Hammerhand, the King of Rohan (voiced by Brian Cox), with a focus on his daughter, the strong willed Princess Héra (voiced by Gaia Wise). In the clip, a dispute erupts during a council meeting, leaving Wulf, a ruthless Dunlending lord, seeking vengeance. Miranda Otto reprises her “Lord of the Rings” role as Éowyn, this time as the movie’s narrator.

I nearly missed how she was the narrator. I was thinking, "I know humans are longer lived in Middle Earth than normal, but not typically by THAT much."

quote:

Hèra might have her match, though, in the film’s antagonist. Wulf, voiced by Luke Pasqualino, is leading the armies of Dunlendings against Helm’s kingdom. “We have an exceptionally great antagonist in this story,” Boyens says. “He's been one of my favorite antagonists to have written across all of the films I've worked on.”

**IF** this is true, I'd be stoked. We've had too many watered down or "obviously evil" antagonists. The best ones are the ones where you could see yourself agreeing with in certain circumstances. Overly evil characters are just too easy.

This is horrible. What in the frick makes you think that cartoon style looks anything like a Tolkien setting?

It’s like if the designers of the teletubbies tried to imitate Ralph Bakshi.

It’s godawful

Retarded post of the month for you. You’ve obviously not seen the movies if you think it’s anything like Teletubbies. I don’t know where to start with that comparison because you may as well be comparing those films to likes Jason Bourne or Saw. Makes no sense whatsoever.

I was pretty excited about this, but the style looks too dime-a-dozen to me. The girl boss storyline isn't helping much either

What the hell are you even talking about?

Do you think this:

Or this:

anthropomorphic nightmares represent Tolkien's style or vision???

Maybe the stories are good, and that's what you're leaning on, but from a visual standpoint those images you posted are straight out of Cartoon Network.

The first image reminds me of Saruman’s chambers in Isengard, and the man that is tall and lanky there is plotting war and can remind me of Saruman.

As for the second, the Uruk Hai being tall, imposing, shrouded in darkness, and carrying a two handed sword one handed is pretty much how you’d imagine them at least animated. Just remove the beards.

And three out of their four films are war movies, so they can do that as well. Plus Teletubies is for like one to four year olds while I wouldn’t show any of Cartoon Saloon’s films to anyone under eight if not nine. Lots of mature themes and a decent amount of violence in them. Very dumb comparison to Teletubies.

Detach yourself from the movies and look at the visuals. Teletubbies may have been an extreme comparison, but those pics are very much in the style of Cartoon Network art.

I wish they would have gone with the style Arcane uses.

Honestly, not really. The style is bringing very elaborately drawn children’s books to life, and I think that translates pretty well to Tolkien’s world. The animation is much better than anything Cartoon Network has. Watch at least the trailer I posted in the previous page because I think it’s fairly absurd to compare the animation style to Cartoon Network’s.

Well, they are making an anime so it wasn't going to be either of those styles

This is true.

Can’t say I love it but if the story is good I can get past the style.

My fear is that it will be just another woke girl power turd in a growing log of Hollywood’s bowel movement.

This is the ultimate, tragic ending for Helm. His story is great. His sons are badasses who die in battle as well. The daughter is just a political trading piece that is never even NAMED in the story, yet the show will revolve around her. I don't care about the style of animation. I care that the actually story from the books is told. It won't be.
