...for the finale. Researched the boards opinions on it afterwards and saw that alot of people didn't like the ending. Why not? They caught the guy. What's not to like about that?

At least half of viewers aren't going to like the ending to any given series, that's just the way it is. The ending was fine.

I think people were so into the character Rust was through the series, they couldn't handle he could change. I thought it was great.

They spent the entire season alluding to a grand conspiracy, including suggesting a link to many known and powerful groups only to drop it all in the last episode.

It was like someone had taken the original ending, tore it out of the script and wrote “the inbred Texas chainsaw massacre guy did it”.

I liked it, but yeah a ton of people around here didn't like it (come on down, SFP). Maybe I am misremembering but IIRC, I think people were wrapped up in the cosmic bullshite Rust was spewing all season and ended up being mad that there wasn't something "mysterious" to it in the end.

this thread is from 2 years ago. here's a few quotes.

first 5 episodes are as good as tv gets. last 3 meh to bad.

t had a great mystery in legit world building with great style/cinematography as the presentation tool. It fell apart due to being unable to end it and the characters being more caricatures which didn't leave any support for the dull ending.

quote:

this was the excuse when everyone was disappointed with the ending. weeks of speculation and countless pages of theories and breakdowns of the plot and where things might end up, then when the ending was trash, everyone was like "it was never about the story, it was about the characters" I don't disagree that it works best as a character study, but it was hilarious how the fanbase shifted

The script started strong and fizzled out.

I just finished a rewatch and I liked it much better the second time around. I was one of the people that was critical of the ending.

Watching the first time thru, there were so many different names mentioned throughout multiple timelines that if you missed one thing, it could’ve thrown off the ending. I think that’s what happened to me, and during the rewatch, the ending was much more satisfying as I was able to pay closer attention to the details. It was also easier to follow along during a binge in which I finished the season in 2 nights.

I believe for some, there was disappointment that we only got to see one dopey guy get caught out of an entire family of rapists.

Another criticism was all the red herrings thrown out during the series.

The Governor and people of that level were clearly involved. But just like in real life they totally skated on responsibility and had lower level fall guys get all of the blame.

Yea, it was somewhat unsatisfying but much more realistic than actually bringing down the big players.

This. It was a good ending. I think the series was so damn good people expected something grand, but it was actually a good way to end. Landing the ending of a beloved series is very difficult. Breaking Bad did it; Better Call Saul? We shall see.

I enjoyed the whole thing. I think the mystery of it all is the most fun part, so when you find out how that’s resolved it takes it away from some people. Especially if it’s not what they guessed would happen.

TD season 1 is one of the best seasons of any series ever imo, that won’t change.

It is Lost 2.0.

The show creates a massive conspiracy and gets the viewer invested in figuring it out. Then it ends with "actually it is just a character study"

people who just watched the show for the show didnt mind or liked the ending, the people invested in the weekly screengrabs and picking apart the mystery hated it.

I remember people hating the second season. I don't remember there being much criticism for the first season, including the ending.

I thought it was an excellent series (season 1), with a great cast. Creepy as hell.

I was hoping for the revelation of a conspiracy, maybe even something a touch paranormal.

This right here. I believe even the local news made a brief mention of the event during the hospital scene and that was it. A very realistic way of events but for the ending of a TV show, I can see why some would feel let down.

Idk why but I was wanting something paranormal involved but it was announced well before the ending that wouldn’t be happening.

Show is fantastic still. I also enjoyed season 3. Season 2 is okay at best. I did a series rewatch recently and it was all more than watchable imo.
