I liked the Toy when I was growing up. That scene when the piranhas ate his jeans had me laughing so hard.

Dallas Buyers Club had so many scenes filmed in Gretna, La., it was kind of surreal for me as a westbanker. Particularly surreal was when Matthew set up his HQ in the hourly roach motel, Oasis, in the same room, regrettably, that I've been in before.

Another surreal experience was watching 21 Jump Street in the theater at the Esplanade Mall in Kenner, La. and watching Channing Tatum & Jonah Hill in a chase driving thru the same Esplanade Mall parking lot I had just parked in

Not my favorite, but worth a mention. I’d guess a very small minority people have ever seen Belizaire. Haven’t seen it since high school French class nearly 30 years ago.

My personal vote is also for Live and Let Die.

Not my favorite, but In The Heat Of The Night. Shootout at the end on Rome Ferry bridge. Pans across our yard and my kids swing set as the bridge rotates open. My mom was home and wondering what all the gunfire was about.

Edit : guess that was the pilot for the series.

My homeroom teacher my senior year in HS was a graduate of Istrouma High School in the late 50s. She told us that one day, almost her entire class skipped school to go up to see “Horse Soldiers” being filmed. She said the boys all went up to see John Wayne, the girls all went up to see William Holden.
