So many terms to describe those Actors who "were in everything", but never quite reached superstardom level.

Those actors who added so much to a Movie or Television Show, but will never be remembered by name....

My favorites would have to be William Smith and Royal Dano.

Let em' fly, ya'll.....

Don't know where Nathan Fillion stands but I've always liked him

Voice of Cayde in Destiny and Spartan Buck in Halo. He has that Paul Rudd effect where he just makes the things he's in light-hearted

I am sure some would not consider him B list, but I submit my fav guy like that - Peter Stormare.

JW2, Constantine and Armageddon have to put him up there. can even add Bad Boys 2 int here as well.

I don't know the criteria, but I suggested this as next MTV bracket - best "character actors".

I will throw up 3 dudes straight from Office Space:

Gary Cole - completely underrated IMO.
Stephen Root
Diedrich Bader

One of my low-key favorites is Lane Smith (RIP)

I always liked Ned Beatty. I was an extra in the movie The Toy which was filmed in Baton Rouge. He ate lunch with the extras whereas Jackie Gleason acted like we didn't exist. The movie was pretty bad, in my opinion.

Poor Ned was also in Deliverance.

For sure.

How would Jeffrey Tambor and Tony Hale fit into this mix? Apologies, I got on a Arrested Development/Psych train of thought.

Napier was great in Blues Brothers, but him in the Goods: Buy Hard Sell Hard was him at his best.

He was on my brain because I did a Rambo First Blood part 2 the other day and he was excellent as CIA man Murdoch. Lee Marvin turned down that role.

As a Sci-Fi/Horror geek, I have to say Lance Henriksen is up there for me as well.

Oh, snap! Stormare would be high on my list.

I also like Rade Serbedzija a lot.

I think Lee Marvin would have been terrible for that part.

When Rambo said "Murdoch... I'm coming to get you!", Marvin would have told him to bring it....

Definitely a favorite of mine.

M. Emmet Walsh just passed (at 88), and might top my list - there's a whole thread on him now with the recent passing.

But, I'll submit Tom Aldredge (played Tony Soprano's father-in-law, Hugh) for consideration. Not a big man, but brought gravity to roles by his presence and persona. (His father was a Colonel in the Army Air Corps).

He was one of those cats who elevated everything, no matter how small the part. With extensive stage experience (probably best known for Steven Sondheim's Into the Woods on Broadway) and 5 Tony nominations, he was usually a bright spot when appearing on film or television. Some of his final roles were the FIL in Sorpranos (as above), plus Nucky's father in Boardwalk Empire.

Not forgetting the ladies, I'm going to say Mildred Natwick was another outstanding support.

Stephen Root -

I don't think he qualifies - his resume would arguably outgrow the topic/category, unless we're just talking about "great character actors". Just as I wouldn't consider PSH for this category, because he was "too big" (I know, TWSS).

Ditto for Woods, Oldham, Rickman, et al.
