Ok. Here's how civil discourse works. Here's my take on your takes.

Poorly edited, rushed, bad pacing: We can agree here. Not the entire movie but there were some editing issues. At times it was fine and definitely sped up at parts. These all go hand-in-hand IMO.

Mindless plot: I don't know about mindless. Seems pretty straight forward from the opening crawl. That's my opinion anyway.

bad pacing. The film has no time to breathe, no time to develop anything. It's a whirlwind that doesn't let anything develop. It just rushes from one scene to the next, and then just ends.

to be fair it was the last of a trilogy or even last of a nine film catalog. This should already be developed. I remember going to see the fellowship of the ring and i did not know it was a triology. i walked out like "WTF that built up the great story over 3 hours to leave you hanging like that!"

Sounds like 90% of the people (on this board) saying the movie is awful are the people who swore a sacred vow to not see it.

I don’t have much expectations for this movie, but glad to hear some not-Last Jedi-bad reviews before I see it tomorrow.

More story would have probably been developed had JJ done the 2nd one also. But obviously TLJ did nothing to advance the plot or story.

the plot should not be at the same place as it was at the start of the movie...... thats what happened in the TLJ

No, the movie just isn't a good movie. It is very poorly written.

It has some very cool action sequences, some gorgeous shots, music is solid. Story and dialogue are largely dumpster fires.

You seem oddly upset people don't like this movie.

What about the movie to you was good?

Could've really been something if JJ had done all 3 in the ST.

I don't care if it is Oscar worthy, I'm not seeing it in theaters because of Disney's screw job in the last movie.

My 12 year old loved it - that's who these movies are for. I liked it much better than I though I would.

I have no idea why Disney was so inclined to release the new trilogy so quickly.

How long was it that they announced they were going to do a new trilogy after Disney gained the rights?

I feel like I heard they got the rights and a week later it was announced.

The Rise is Skywalker is the best sequel and the fifth best of the movies behind the OT and Revenge of the Sith.

TFA was a good start and only now looks bad because of Little Rian (dude is 5’6 and a buck 30) throwing out JJ’s outline. And yes JJ did have an outline.

This movie is good. Better than TFA, TPM, and AOTC.

Just got back from seeing it and I'm glad this thread is here for my upvote. I agree 100%.

I really enjoyed Episode IX.

This is my take as well. In hindsight, Disney should've thrown all of the banks at Abrams to have him handle all 3 films. And given him the time he wanted. Which was probably just spacing them out 3 years apart like the prior trilogies.

Abrams is a terrible film maker. I predicted he’d bomb on Rise and he did for the exact reasons I predicted. He’s not intelligent enough to do Sci-fi in anyway and he makes pure shite all of the time. I never saw fringe and I hear that’s his best bit I doubt it. When 8 year olds can point out ridiculousness and plot holes over and over again you know you’ve just witnessed a trash movie.

Just saw the movie. I didn't go in expecting much, but left not really feeling disappointed or that the movie was even good. I just feel kind of blah, and when star wars marathons come on TV over the weekends I will just steer clear of the sequel trilogy altogether.

I felt like the sequels were a mess from the start and this really just solidified that. The entire trilogy felt like it lacked focus and that's ultimately what brought it down. Throw in all of the social justice and pandering that Disney just had to incorporate and the sequels honestly just feel like tools to convey messages.

I really did want the movie to do good things and enhance TFA and TLJ in the process. I will give JJ some credit, it felt like he tried what he could on that front, but TLJ was just too fricked up to completely overcome. At the same time, I feel like a lot of this mess is JJ's fault for starting the sequel trilogy off with a movie that was an almost 100% copy of Episode 4. While it seemed like a safe idea, it also wasn't because if you copy something, what value does it have if it isn't as good as what came before?

But the most egregious sin of RoS was it did things that cheapened the impact of what happened in the original trilogy, especially episode VI, and I just can't get past that.

hit all the right "nostalgia" buttons. There was a space battle, some blaster action, some comedic droid beeps. That's all it takes for some people these days I guess.

What’s funny is you just got the entire plot of the original trilogy
