I like to think that was the case but Calebs desperation seemed to suggest impending doom but most of that could been his realization that Ava had zero emotional attachment.

That's how I took it. While watching it, I was like "holy shite, he's fricked." But then a minute later I remembered that he really shouldn't be trapped there, and him sitting at the computer shows that. And when the power fails and he flips out, I remembered that those don't last long.

For me, it was more that he was in love with Ava and came to the realization that she was palying him to escape, just as Nathan had told him. When Ava gets on the elevator, she throws a glance at Caleb as the door closes...she she knows he is there. She's just indifferent. And that surely had to crush someone like Caleb.

Ava did that at will. on subsequent viewings, I noticed that every time the power goes out/comes on, it is preceded by Ava touching an induction plate.

and in regards to all the doors opening, the door for Nathan's room was set to be the only one that locked

Carson123987 : Ex Machina : : OMLandshark : Interstellar

I really love both of these films. Interstellar was just a film I had been waiting on for a long long time. When I first saw Contact, I loved the story, but thought it was anti-climatic due to the lack of stakes and the ending. When I saw 2001, I loved it of course, but thought that there could be some spiritual successor to it that was a bit more cynical due to the actual direction our space program at large has gone. Interstellar is a combination of these two ideas, and unless it was directed by Michael Bay or Roland Emmerich, it would be hard for me to not be excited for that film.

That said, I do think Ex Machina is a less flawed film than Interstellar is. I can think of some things I'd change with Interstellar, but have drawn a blank when it comes Ex Machina. The film is pretty much perfect as far as I'm concerned. The characters I think are better, the dialog is better, and it has even greater tension than Interstellar does. Interstellar on the other hand I think is more epic, is more ambitious, and has the overall better story.

Ex Machina is all about the characters, while Interstellar is more about the story. I think both films would make my Top 25.

Which film do I like more? Interstellar

Which film do I think is overall better? Ex Machina

I agree with everything you said. As flawed as Interstellar is, I can't stop thinking about it for days each time I watch it.

I just watched this and thought it was good but overrated. For me it became predictable about halfway through.

My biggest takeaway is Oscar Isaac has become one of my favorite current actors.

I'm particularly excited because I only got to catch it once in theaters. I've had a lot of time to think about it and read a lot of people's comments. Feel like I'll appreciate it even more this time around (and I LOVED it on the first viewing).

Easily the best film I've seen in a while.

Movie had great pacing and built up the suspense perfectly.

Fantastic movie, had some huge ideas which is what I like in science fiction movies. And of course:

Saw it a few nights ago and absolutely loved it. The characters were outstanding and I hope it gets recognized come award season.

On a lighter note when watching a film like this or the TV show Humans (which is pretty good) it always makes me go a little low brow and think how awesome having a fine arse sex robot would be.

Nathan being a sociopath is up for debate, though that would mean he lacked the emotional awareness and understanding to create an AI to begin with. Nathan is a cocksucker to be sure, a psychopath, I don't believe he is/was. Caleb was the one prepared to leave Nathan trapped inside to die...just saying

Nathan was brilliant and had a God complex. He was a controlling master manipulator that looked at others as lesser beings that were their for his use.

I will admit a major brain fart on my part. For the first 20 minutes of the movie I thought the guy playing Nathan was the Jewish dude that got the blumpkin in Harold and Kumar.

Seriously one of the most boring dialogue movies ever. "How do I look?"

I didn't understand it either. Any answers on this?

Nathan rips the picture up and Ava says something along the lines of "It's utterly amazing how you can be the creator of something that so completely hates you."

Finally watched it last night and loved it. Best movie so far in 2015, imo. It was refreshing to see something original.

The suspense was unreal for the entire 110 min.
