For the most part, they just want to use the IP to bring in viewers and not have to put too much effort into creativity. It is lazy but it makes money.

What makes this situation a little more unique is that the IP has MASSIVE amounts of content that have never been put to the screen that they could draw from, that is really, really good content. The job was essentially already done for them. They still ignored it all

it's the same hubris that led them to feature ST characters in the parks.

Entire godamned galaxy and apparently the only thing of interest that happens is a singular bloodline.
