it's amazing how these major companies get these established IPs and just run them into the ground all in the name of "the message"
For the most part, they just want to use the IP to bring in viewers and not have to put too much effort into creativity. It is lazy but it makes money.
What makes this situation a little more unique is that the IP has MASSIVE amounts of content that have never been put to the screen that they could draw from, that is really, really good content. The job was essentially already done for them. They still ignored it all

it's the same hubris that led them to feature ST characters in the parks.

FFS didn’t they say 9 was the end of that?
There are no Skywalkers alive.
Entire godamned galaxy and apparently the only thing of interest that happens is a singular bloodline.

But Rey identifies as a Skywalker.
That's good enough for the Modern Audience.

The New Jedi Order, still officially untitled, directed by Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy, will follow Rey (Daisy Ridley) as she works to rebuild the Jedi Order in the wake of the sequel trilogy.

The upcoming movie is scheduled for a theatrical release on December 17, 2027.The project will be set 15 years after the events of Episode IX - The Rise of Skywalker.
Saw this on X and had to post. What are we doing man

And see, I’ll get with you on this one. I flat out refuse to participate in anything sequel trilogy related. It’s all bullshite aimed at the 1% of the population that hates itself. This is a perfect example of “the message.”
Same with Starfighter. I’ve never not seen a Star Wars movie in the theater on opening weekend. (Starting with the special edition. I wasn’t born yet for the original premieres)
Saw Mando second week. Won’t see Starfighter at all if it’s about getting to Rey’s academy to set up her trilogy.
You’re just wrong about Andor. Very very wrong.

But why? Who is asking for a standalone movie about Rey?

Donald Glover’s Lando Film No
Disagree. I thought Donald Glover was great as Lando in Solo. I would love to see more adventures with Han and Lando doing heists, bootlegging, playing cards, and outrunning bounty hunters and Imperials.

Glover was a great Lando no doubt.

Not that I thought they would actually finish all of those projects, but man are they going to pare that list back after Mando failed so badly.
Might as well just light millions of dollars on fire in stead of going through the motions on these three.

Andor was great but the illegal storyline from the beginning of the second season was a completely transparent modern theme. It was so on the nose that it was out of place with the rest of the episodes.

James Mangold’s Dawn of the Jedi
No.
Have you read the book?
