I rewatched this movie last night.
“Vodka is a luxury we have, time is NOT”
IMO, the opening scene with Jude Law crossing the river into Stalingrad is one of my favorite war scenes. In addition, I liked how this movie showed the brutality and stupidity of the Soviet Union with their political commissars killing their own men for retreating.
If anyone wants to stream the movie, it’s on Amazon Prime

Good film. Especially liked the scene near the end when Jude Law finally gets Ed Harris in his sights. He calmly removes his hat and faces him to seal his fate.

"The one with the rifle shoots. The one without follows him. When the one with the rifle gets killed, the one who is following picks up the rifle and shoots."
Wonderful morale booster.

You forgot to add the punch line. "If you retreat, you will be shot."
How's that for incentive to face your potential death. Go forward and likely get shot, or retreat and definitely get shot. Guess going forward was the lesser of the 2 evils at that time.

Loved the Stuka's at the beginning while the commies were crossing the Volga.

When Ed Harris times it right and shoots the guy as he’s jumping across the little bridge was fricking badarse

Arguably the worst sound you could have heard in WW2, maybe second to the MG-42

I never understood the criticism of this movie. It's good. Maybe not totally realistic, but entertaining as hell.

Amazing movie, one of my top 10 war films

Very underrated movie. It was crazy that Russia lost 50-60 million people during WWII. In comparison US lost 400,000. When you see the movie and see that people were just carrying bullets but no guns you can see why. I wish they would have more movies that went into the subject of the German invasion into Russia. Brutal on both sides.

A scene of which is almost exactly duplicated in one of the Call of Duty games I believe.
