I just hate double standards
She can play Helen and they want a black James Bond and the new Snape is black and it’s considered “brave” and “bold”.
But no way can it be the other way around. Imagine Black Panther being played by Ryan Gosling. They’d be fine with that, right?
Just last week an actress dropped out because of the backlash of a white girl being cast for a part that in the book said she had Mexican heritage
What a joke
She can play Helen and they want a black James Bond and the new Snape is black and it’s considered “brave” and “bold”.

The rest of you aren't upset about it because you agree with the goal the studios are pushing. Which is to rewrite history to make it more favorable to "minorities" (which is ridiculous considering white people are the worlds real minority by far).
Almost every single tv show and movie are doing this and have been for the last 15-20 years. Every year they get more aggressive with it. Constantly swapping out white characters for POC, male characters change to female, straight to gay, etc.
What is extra disappointing in this case is we thought Nolan was above such nonsense. That he would put the integrity of his story first. Clearly he has changed his mind on that subject or had it changed for him by the studio.

It’s a myth. It’s not “real history”.
Yes, I would be upset if I was going to see a documentary on an actual historic event and it was miscast. This isn’t that. It’s literally entertainment.

If Nolan is doing this it’s because he wants to. Given his standing he’s not likely getting strong armed by the studio.
I trust in his casting though. I’ve yet to see any of his movies that aren’t well cast.

What I find funny about the criticisms is that nothing is stopping someone from creating their own production of The Odyssey with what OP and others want cast. No one is forcing anyone to see this movie. Don’t like the casting? Don’t go.
I don’t understand why someone like the Daily Wire doesn’t produce a version that is palatable to the critics? Or better yet, if Musk is so outraged by it why doesn’t he throw some money at someone to do it?

Bernthal is a very underrated actor, I'm glad he's in it. But sure, he was miscast even though you can't tell why. Makes total sense.

No. The problem is there's a lot of "that's not who this should be" with little action behind it though. These movies are still making money.
You can attempt to control the narrative on a micro level by not paying to see these movies if the "wokeism" is so devastating for your cultural identity. Or not watch it streaming.
My criticism is largely for those who CAN influence production through financial means. If it bothers someone like Musk so much, why doesn't he invest in a studio that will produce a version of The Odyssey he feels is appropriate? His net worth is over 5 billion, correct? Surely that won't put that much of a dent in his pocket.

I think Lupita is pretty and a good actress, but putting her in this role will just be a distraction. The casting and costumes for this movie have been disappointing overall.
