I already thought that from the original Holmes documentary I saw. Not that she did a bad job, its just hard to emulate real crazy.

Yeah she's a great actress (I'm bummed her Joni Mitchell biopic role fell through). But like you said, this woman has a level of crazy that's tough to emulate.

Not gonna lie, her face is perplexing in this. Its like they took her face and somehow added PIXAR and Mouse looking features... yet somehow, still attractive looking.

The documentary on her was good. The mini series with Amanda Seifert was also really good.

Do yall think her concept was just ahead of its time? I can see her idea working in the near future. If it's not already happening.. I mean you can now take a dump in a box for colon cancer screening...

That is the weird thing. I think its like women who gravitate to men that treat them bad and are assholes. Why? Don't know. Why do I find this lady, who I know is crazy as a loon, attractive and really would love to get with? Why? I shouldn't, but I can't help it. There is something alluring in that deep crazy.

i think this is actually a pretty fair take. i think for a long time, especially early on, she really thought her idea was going to make it if she could just fake it through the early stages. where that actively became fraud is a little hazy.
interestingly, there is something of a parallel with the Enron collapse. one of their investments that was just sucking out money while they were representing it as a money-maker was a co-venture with Blockbuster for broadband internet and video streaming. they had the idea but the technology wasnt there yet and they continued to push forward (fraudulently) in the hopes that the tech would materialize.

From what I understand, what they were trying to do fundamentally could not work for most tests and this was supposedly explained to her by one of her professors at Stanford. Getting a pinprick of blood can work for some things, like glucose testing, but for many tests you need a certain volume of blood did get an representative sample of what is or isn't present in it as things like viruses and antibodies are not evenly distributed in your blood. Getting a tiny sample, diluting it, and then extrapolating the results will not give consistent, reliable results.

That was part of it, but they had a lot of crazy money losing crap going on that wasn't just based on a technology not being there. It was the whole issue with Theranos.

oh yeah, a thousand per cent. that was one of MANY problems with Enron. i just always thought it was interesting that they were a leading voice for streaming media, just before its time.
but yeah with Theranos, it was just the one thing.

I don't have any clue who the guy is, but it seems like a real waste of a great story to do it as a bit, and weird to try and humanize a con artist.

If you have no clue who Nathan Felder is or what he does, then you're way in the dark as far as speculating, or having much of an opinion on what it will be. I'm not trying to be a douche, I'm just saying that his comedic/filmmaking style is very different, and much more unique than basically anyone else. I highly doubt that his goal is to "humanize a con artist" in the way you are thinking. Its pretty hard to know exactly what this film will be all about.

I'm going off the person I responded to saying it was a "bit" and satire, who says he does know Fielder's style.
If it's either of those things, seems like a waste of the access he was granted.
And yes, If Elizabeth is in on the bit, it humanizes her. If it's like Borat, a bit of a different story.

I gotcha. I'd say that his style isn't quite as simple as "satire" and "bits", but more of a blurry line between satire, reality, and fiction. His awkwardness, and ability to create super awkward situations is a big part of his comedy. Very smart, clever dude. Might be a tad on the spectrum.

FYI - Elizabeth Holmes is still in prison. The disgraced Theranos founder is currently serving her sentence at Federal Prison Camp Bryan, a minimum-security federal facility in Texas, with a projected release date of February 22, 2030. She has been in jail since May 2023.
