Nolan literally did less of what he's not good at, and he focused heavily on the things he does well. No idea how you can say this movie is bad. I can see how some people might like it more than others, but I just don't see how you give this a negative score.

As buckeye said, you referenced ONE review
And I can't believe I wasted my time finding all of the reviews from the "Brits." But I just couldn't believe he found one negative review, despite being amongst one of the best reviewed films, and decides THAT IS the review that captures some pervasive sentiment.

I mean Rex Reed gave it a 2/4. That is actually a rotten review, but he called it the best Nolan film (although he rated The Dark Knight as fresh). He usually despises Nolan films; he gave Inception and The Dark Knight Rises 1/4 and included Interstellar in his worst films of the year.

He also panned Cabin in the Woods although his review makes it clear he didn't see it or couldn't follow it.

So at palace elmwood it looks like they have imax and 70 mm but not imax + 70 mm. Is that right? Which one would be better experience?

IMAX 70mm is the best, but only few across the country. Normal IMAX would be my choice, you see more of the intended picture

Yea, it seems some of the negative reviews blame the lack of character development and how you don't really care about them. But in a WWII movie we already know who the good guys are going in. And after seeing it, if u need more character driven scenes in order to "care" about them then I really don't know what to tell you. This obviously isn't a Saving Private Ryan were it focuses on a group of individuals and their story, but I still very much so cared about the characters in this movie

I normally hate movies that have characters that aren't super well developed. That wasn't an issue for me at all here.

As much as I like Nolan's movies the main complaint with them is that he usually goes a tad overboard and a bit too long

This movie leaves me wanting more, especially the aerial dogfights. And I think that's a good thing

Holy schnikes! When did the Palace get 70mm? How did I miss this? I thought I was going to have to make a road trip to see it in 70mm.

ETA... what's the difference between 70mm (regular) and 70mm IMAX?

.Nolan has taken this event and reduced it to a video-game. That's pissing on the memories of those who died and history just to appease teenagers and fanboys and shirk his duty as a film-maker.

No way you have seen the movie.

Do you mean Normal 70mm would be your choice (if no 70mm IMAX is available), as opposed to digital IMAX?

What's the difference between 70mm IMAX and Normal 70mm?

Big difference. 70mm will be a better quality picture, but you see less of the entire picture height wise. Regular IMAX(xenon) won't be as high quality picture but you see more of the entire picture. 70mm IMAX is the whole thing

I chose regular IMAX over 70mm because of the picture size and better/louder sound, and the sound is a huge part of this movie. But I guess it comes down to preference

I thought this movie was a masterpiece.

I also think that in true Movie Board fashion it will become the cool movie to hate in the future.

Saw it tonight. Thought it was well done. But it isn't in my top 3 Nolan films. That doesn't mean it was bad. Just not as good as I was expected based on reviews.

Loved the story. I was not familiar with it before this movie.

Yeah. My good buddy has been waiting a month with tickets and saw it today. Said same thing.

He liked it but said it wasn't his favorite Nolan movie. Said it was a solid B/B+

We all have differing opinions

What would you put over this one for Nolan?
