No, it was originally called Dune sisterhood then it was changed to prophecy which is a dead giveaway of what the show was going to be but I was just so happy to have a Dune series I ignored it. I figured the BG are a female sect of Dune and they’re a great part of it so just follow the source material and you’re golden plus the activist writers get what they want also. It’s a can’t miss win/win but instead they’ve taken the BG and turned them into the same modern day cringe, “strong female character” trope that ruins every other show with this junk in it.

It seems the show is about the origins of the Kwisatz Haderach prophecy so calling it Prophecy makes sense. Calling it Sisterhood was the mistake because it’s not a direct adaptation of Brian’s book Sisterhood of Dune.

“Brian’s book”
Another question.. why? Of all the stories in Franks work and all the stories you could create based on his universe you decide, “hey let’s do a Brian book”? I ignored this red flag as well.

I can say for certain that they cannot adapt any of Frank’s books before Denis finishes Messiah.
It could also be a situation like LOTR where they only have the film rights to Frank’s Dune and not the television rights. They had to negotiate with Brian for the rights to any of Dune so it’s not a leap to assume he specified they had to adapt his novels.

I like the show. It’s fun to see more stories onscreen in the Dune universe. There’s plenty of room there for TV shows.
That being said, I’m not really a fan of flashback episodes or jumping around in time. I don’t exactly know why modern TV and movie writers think the origin story of every major character needs to be fully explained via flashbacks and prequels. It’s okay to have a little mystery or just a subtle clue as to where they come from. Imagination is a powerful tool. They should trust viewers to fill in the gaps for themselves.

This is just a girl power ripoff
yeah, so much Girl Power when the head of the Benne Gesserrit got owned by a man and he laughed in her face
i'm wondering how you think this show was created
Writers room and HBO management: "OK guys, we need to make a girl power show and really push how awesome women are."
"ok, lets make them all a bunch of conniving, backstabbing bitches and then have them get completely owned by some unknown male character that got ate by a sandworm, because that makes women look powerful."

One of the best parts of DV's Dune was the look of it. The planets, the ornithopters, the harvesters, the crysknives, etc. The spaceships orbiting the planet look like every other sci-fi show, the planets look like they are from GOT's or the Star Wars sequels.

The look is a little back and forth imo. Some of it looks really good but when they try to jazz it up some it looks like you described. But for a TV show it looks pretty good, they’re not going to be able to duplicate what DV does.

Sure, ignore 99.9% of the show and focus on a single scene with the one rival character.

As an episode, I liked Episode 3. Backstory was nice and it shows Valia's motivations. The actresses playing the young and old versions of Tula and Valia did a good job and are probably what is saving the show.
As for Voice, of course it sounds rough. Valia is the first one to use Voice. It hasn't been perfected or refined yet. It shouldn't sound as it does later in the books.

I liked her speech at the dinner table, that’s good shite right there.

Has it gotten better since the first episode? It took me 3 tries to finish it and I only half payed attention. Seems like a lot of set up instead of hook for a first episode

Wasn’t expecting her to be a Face Dancer.

Decent episode, moving the story along.
Travis Fimmel continues to be the weakest performer. His big speech could have been something, but it was an emotionless bore.

Look, this will probably be greeted with immediate derision by some but statistics regarding average female proportions give this observation merit: HBO seems to have absolutely gone out of their way to only cast near flat-chested women as Bene Gesserit. I'm completely serious. There is just no way they could end up with this many of them by chance. If they are wearing binders or something then that would essentially represent the same attitude toward noticeable breasts.

Honestly I haven't noticed. I find the show incredibly boring. The show had so much potential too. I am enjoying The Skeleton Crew very much though.
