I think me and Fun Bunch both weren't really talking about you. There are two or three guys on here that his statement applies to that are just miserable human beings and try to make everyone on here miserable.

Sorry, but no. Chani is supposed to be the devoted wife of Paul

Not that I want any movie to be adapted for "modern audiences", but, this just doesn't work today. She's his concubine, not his wife. Most people other than die hard book fans would think this is pretty dumb for a man to be married to someone and have a concubine be super supportive to him despite being married to another woman.

I'd rather it be as completely accurate as possible, but it's not that ridiculous of a change from a story standpoint. It's pretty natural for a woman to be pissed when a man spurns her. It's easy to see how his marriage to Irulan would seem that way.

This movie may end up being bad, I don't know. But based on pretty much everything Villenueve has ever done and how good the first two were, I have high hopes. They are about as good of an adaption is you could hope for with a Dune trilogy (so far) imo.

You probably supported Arwen fighting at Helm’s Deep.

"Think on it, Chani: that princess will have the name, yet she'll live as less than a concubine — never to know a moment of tenderness from the man to whom she's bound. While we, Chani, we who carry the name of concubine — history will call us wives."

I don't believe that for one second. Mainly because the film spent a good bit of its runtime setting up their romance. We are invested in Chani and Paul despite the fact that he married a princess for political reasons.

Can't wait to see and hear the Dune universe one more time but Villeneuve, for all his bluster about commitment to Herbert's message, has totally shite on it. Chani as foil. Fremen split message. Cutting style pieces is fine, undermining the story itself, less so. The first watch of the previous films were amazing but they are unwatchable now. This will be the same, but it's better than nothing.

Cool trailer. As someone who didnt care for Dune 2 im cautiously optimistic

Couple things i took note of here [spoilers from the book and movies]

Vilaneuve wrote himself into a hole that the movie has to spend time to pull itself out of if its going to follow Messiah and not just be a fanfic. But it benefits him in that it keeps the pace up which is something Messiah sorely needed.

So looks like you'll get the falling out of Chani and Paul, then a fast forward of Chani going desert rebel while Paul conquers the universe, you see the zealous fremen fighting the Tlielax with their straw hat aesthetic,, from there Scytale gives CloneDuncan to Paul as a peace offering and they become pals. Scytale recruits Chani to get close to Paul to kill him initially and you get some battle scenes of the plucky chani's forces against Paul's.

She finally gives up the fight when Paul does his mea culpa.

All that to get us to the main events of the book. Paul using the voice on Irulan, Scytale telling Paul he doesn't have much time and to hand over power, that all relates to Scytale/Irulan's plot against Paul and Chani, pretty close to if not directly from the book which is a good thing.

And finally CloneDuncan getting ready to square with what looks to be Scytale is a massive fricking spoiler.

Cautiously optimistic. However that's a lot of stuff to cover and how they choose to handle Alia could make or break the narrative since it already has a lot going on.

He replied to your reply to me. Maybe you weren't, but Fun Bunch gets into this strange unhinged rage whenever someone questions Villeneuve's choices.

In a feudal empire where its made very clear that Paul intends to marry the princess to seize the throne? Of course it makes sense. It was handled very well in the novel, and would have translated well to the movie if the director hadn't have made the odd choice of making Chani a sceptic.

And that's the thing. Irulan should be the one who feels scorned. She's married to the Emperor, but he has made it clear that its a political marriage only, and that she will never bear his children. Which is why she slips contraceptives into Chani's food, and why she plots against Paul in the novels. So you're getting what you're asking for if Villeneuve had just stuck with the original story.

I don't think it will be bad. But I know the changes he makes will make the movie less enjoyable than it could have been. At least for me.

Correct, I disagree with his assessment on the Dune movies because I think he is too close to the material and doesn't get what Denis is doing cinematically (that works perfectly)

He is fine though

There are several miserable people on here that can't enjoy literally anything

There is no unhinged rage, but yeah, its pretty insane for someone like you or me to question Denis Vilenueve's choices
