quote:when at the groundlings, phil hartman was painfully shy and worked at a grocery store or something and never wanted to be on stage. pee wee drew him out of his shell.
I'm ignorant. Who else did he launch?
pee wee added him to his stage show as 'captain carl' (first time he had ever been on stage) and the two of them sat down & wrote the entire 'pee wees big adventure' script.
tim burton wasn't even a director at the time; i had just assumed he had already established his 'style' but the way he got involved was pee wee called shelley long after WB gave him the green light to make a movie for advice and she said "call this guy tim burton, i think he's exactly who you need to direct it."
tim burton got a great deal of the quirkiness he applied to movies throughout his career from pee wee and being able to bring pee wee & phil hartman's script to the screen.
he hung out with andy warhol and elvira was one of his close friends he hung out with every day at groundlings along with several other (later) big names.
i haven't gotten to Part II yet.

Dottie could get it.
So could Miss Yvonne, back in the day.
Debi Mazar definitely could. How no one thought to cast her and Fairuza Balk as sisters is mystery to me.

My favorite scene in Big Adventure
He has the Rube Goldberg contraption to make his breakfast. It makes his eggs toast pancakes bacon and drinks. He pours a ton of Mr T cereal on it It takes like 5 minutes
He then eats ONE piece of the mr t cereal, wipes his mouth with a napkin and leaves the rest

No, it's true. He was a registered sex offender.
He collected gay beefcake magazines and within these magazines under age boys were depicted. In this documentary it's mentioned, but glossed over as them only finding one image of an underage boy, while most of the magazines were still inside rappers.
They didn't mention that they found literally hundreds of images that were also deemed "inappropriate" on his home computer.
He was a ped, that was registered for 5 years.

I didn't watch the entire show, but I did see the part about his relationship with Phil Hartman. They didn't seem to give Hartman the credit deserved for creating the Peewee character.
Did they go into further detail?

Yea, Hartman ripped into him on the Howard Stern show.
Herman was not a good person. By any measure.

While this doc claims that Hartman just hung around outside, too timid to come in the theater, Lovitz claims that Hartman got his start when he walked up from the audience to get on stage between Groundling acts, and got huge laughs from the audience. Take your pick.
phil hartman was painfully shy and worked at a grocery store or something
And this is a great doc. They didn't whitewash Reubens as a saint. He was difficult to work with and led a lifestyle that opened him up to being an easy target.
And his appearances on Letterman were legendary.

I watched it, and I followed when it was happening, there were no under age boys in any of his material, this is a false statement.
Look, im as homophobic as the next guy, but I dont have any problems w/ Paul. He never pushed any beliefs or harmed anyone. Dude had a false witch hunt against him and he suffered for it.

It was 3 years, not 5. But he was definitely a ped.
Jeffrey Jones
Jones, who played the principal in "Ferris Bueller's Day Off," was busted in 2002 for allegedly soliciting an underage boy to pose for explicit images. He pleaded no contest in 2003 and is currently listed as a sex offender in California.
He was later arrested in 2004 for failing to register as a sex offender in Florida, then again in 2010 for not updating his sex offender status.
Jones, 71, has appeared in several productions since his arrest, including the TV series "Deadwood" from 2004 to 2006 and the 2007 comedy film "Who's Your Caddy?"
That investigation also led authorities to search the home of Paul Reubens, the actor who played Pee-wee Herman, where they found images featuring children that they deemed explicit. Reubens' team argued the images were part of the actor's art collection, and he reached a settlement that involved him going on three years' probation.
Reubens agreed to register as a sex offender for the duration of his probation. He's appeared in a number of roles since, including appearances on "Reno 911!" in 2006 and "30 Rock" in 2007.

The first 30-40 minutes is a hard watch. It was all I could do to keep watching because I loved the show as a kid in the 80’s.

Him and Tiny Tim were 2 of the oddest characters I've seen in the media over the years. Although Pee Wee did have a much better career than Tiny Tim even dreamed about.
Tiny Tim wore diapers, not because he needed them, but because they felt fresher than underwear. I can't remember if he pissed in them though.

She showed her tits in some knock off, 80's teen movie. Valley Girl I think.
