Dumb plot point in Endgame final battle sequence

Watched it for the first time in a while and there's a point at the end where they are trying to get the Ant-Man's van in the middle of the battle because Hulk said they have to bring the stones back in time to the point that they were originally taken... something Cap later does at the end of the movie.
Why the frick though, in the middle of the battle for the whole fricking universe, do they decide now is the time to bring the stones back? They literally could do it at any point in time, whether it was at that moment or five years later.
Just makes no sense at all.

Or Iron Man could have all of the good guys duck, use his laser-wrist things from Iron Man 2, and cut every baddie in half before the battle even got started.

Nope.
They were actively not doing that. Hawkeye has the gauntlet and asks Cap what do you want me to do with these and Cap says get them as far away as possible, but then Hulk says no, we got to return them back to where they came from, which starts the whole dumb "find the Ant-Man van" sequence which ends with Thanos blowing it up.

To remove it off the battlefield. No 2014 stones, so after Hulk snapped everyone back, if Thanos won he couldn’t undo it, and the timeline is preserved.
They had already accomplished the mission. They weren’t trying to fight Thanos again, just to keep it away from him in their time.

Again, that's what Cap said and Hulk said no.

The whole battle started with Cap, Iron Man and Thor attacking Thanos.

What bothered me the most about that scene is how apparently all Avengers and their allies have earpieces and can easily communicate with each other across the battlefield - even those who just came back from getting dusted or were transported from other planets.
It's dumb, but it bugged me for some reason.

Why didn’t Scarlet Witch hold Thanos up in the air and have Valkyrie impale him with her spear over and over?
Why didn’t giant Ant-Man just run over and squash Thanos with his foot?
Even more simple, why didn’t one of the wizards just portal Thanos and his army to bumfrick Antarctica while they dealt with the stones?

How about when Hulk struggles mightily just putting on the gauntlet and snapping his fingers, but Tony just gets a quick jolt before snapping. That made me lol.

Or just have a wizard open a knife sized portal right behind his head and brain him.
Or one at his feet and cut him in half when he's halfway through.

The thing that always cracked me up with that sequence was Wasp was the expert on the technology, not Ant-Man.
What is she doing at that time? She's going across to the other side of the battlefield for the girl-power scene. Why the hell wasn't she helping get that tech setup?

I don’t think I’ve ever rolled my eyes harder than the Girl Power charge

Why didn’t Scarlet Witch hold Thanos up in the air

I believe if they were to take them back in time, then there was no way Thanos could get to them. They might have lost the fight against Thanos, but he wouldn't be able to snap half of life out of existence. Cap's idea to just "get them far away" wouldn't do much. Thanos easily could have just gone back to his ship and follow the stones.

returning the stones removes the for 2014 Thanos grasp. It’s the same principle as Clint taking the stones physically away from the battle.

Umm the whole battle starts with 2014 Thanos jumping through the Quantum realm with his ship and attacking Avengers HQ.
Were you paying attention in this movie?

It's just not feasible to do that in a middle of the biggest battle of all-time.

They’re The Avengers. Nothing is impossible.

None of those would have even been needed if Gandalf just has the eagles fly the ring to Mount Doom and drop it in the lava!
