Unless Walter is so depressed that he basically undermines himself and his potential, how does some pharmaceutical company at minimum not scoop this guy up? Or any company needing an elite chemist. It’s not like it’s a secret he’s a brilliant chemist and only discovers this by making meth.
STOP! The show is already GOATed (due to default by GOT last 2 seasons). Criticism is not allowed here. Just go with the premise

I think it's the greatest series of all time. A monumental achievement.
And yet I only rewatched it only once. Don't know what it is. That was enough.
The Sopranos, on the other hand....it's background noise at my house.

He broke up with Gretchen because he felt intimidated by her family’s status compared to his own and sold his stake in the company for 5k
His insecurity caused him to make mistakes early in life when he easily could have had it all. He was brilliant but lacked confidence and ambition so he ended up a meek self loathing high school chemistry teacher. It was the beginning of a pattern of self destructive behavior seen through the show. Even after he gains ambition and becomes a criminal mastermind he still is his own worst enemy and continually ruins a good thing.
The best thing about the breaking bad franchise is the character arcs.

I had the same impression of Skyler being terrible the first time I watched BB but after rewatching I changed my opinion. She was a normal suburban housewife until Walt started acting weird and lying to her. Most women would react how she did to that.
And she went along with Walt’s crimes because she wanted to protect her kids from the truth and hoped Walt would just die before getting caught and that his kids would never know the shame of their dad being a meth dealer

Every re watch I do, I like Hank and Jesse more and hate everyone else on the show more.
Jesse and Mike are the only two in the criminal world who actually have a conscience. They’re the only ones throughout the show who actually care about innocent people who are hurt by their actions.
I find Saul to be a far more intriguing character than Walt. His storyline is absolutely incredible. One of the best characters ever created in a show morphing a conman (slippin jimmy) into a broke failure of an attorney (James McGill) trying to get his brothers approval into this successful loud boisterous criminal mastermind sleazy attorney wearing bright colored suits is just fantastic.

Tried twice to watch BB and couldn’t get past the 3rd episode. Bunch of my friends told me to stick with it and I would be hooked. Tried watching a third time. Started over from ep 1 and watched the entire first season. Just doesn’t do it for me. I just can’t get into it and don’t understand the hype.

I was rolling along with this series until the episode where they were in the lab and the entire episode was about him trying to catch a fly or some dumb shite like that. After that annoying arse episode, I turned it off
do you know why that episode was the way it was? there is a reason. ill let you figure out.

I liked it a lot. Its nowhere near the level of The Sopranos, The Wire, or BB. Or just the first two if you didn't like BB.

I liked BB, but it was never one of my all time favorite shows. However, I've been watching reruns lately on that stories by AMC channel, and it's really grown on me. I love the show now.

The Wire is overrated

This sums it up.

quote:Meh. Walt Jr. was a massive missed opportunity. He was 2 dimensional at best. Ditto Hank's wife.

quote:I had the exact opposite reaction. It was clear the Saul character was put onscreen before his arc was fleshed out. That's why he's cartoonish and almost one-dimensional before basically completely changing. It was poor writing.

Meth Damon's character was absurd writing also.

Unless Walter is so depressed…
It’s a valid question - and one I have thought about too - but some form of depression would be my best explanation. I think he went into a mental funk after the Grey Matter falling out that was difficult for him to recover from. But the cancer diagnosis gave him some urgency and a lack of fear, and the opportunity with Jesse presented a quick chance to not only provide for his family but gain the money and respect he missed out on years ago and thought was gone forever. Once he made a bit of money and people praised the quality of his meth, his pride and ambition returned with a vengeance due to years of animosity building inside of him for how his career turned out in a field in which he was very passionate and knowledgeable.
