Does this fanmade Jon Snow video prove that D&D were capable of good character development

Although they were incapable of putting together a storyline that would satisfy the other characters arcs?
SNOW

Still burns my arse the way they wasted such an awesome character.

I think him offing Dany is a pretty great ending. It was just the execution of it all sucks. The video edited out all the shitty stuff going on and just focused on Jon and there is a good story there.

The majority of the story was built by the fat frick and then ruined by D&D.

They did a great job taking existing lore and putting it to screen. When they had to actually come up with something on their own they shot themselves in the dick. Jon Snow was a shell of himself in that last season. Wasted completely.

The same people made a sandor clegane one that is pretty fun but not as good as snow
The part where Ned says u may not have my name, but you are a stark, hits diff

After watching that it pretty obvious that the ending was so simple and those idiots totally screwed the pooch.
Had they let Snow kill the Night King in epic fashion and then succeed to the throne after taking down Cersei in another epic manner we would not still shitting on the best show ever because of the last 2 seasons

I just think the scenes leading up to him falling in love and then killing Dany happened too rapidly. It would've had more impact if the spaced it out.
He never wanted the throne, he sacrificed himself for the realm because tyrion led him to see that she was out of control

quote:Unfortunately for us, this show got caught up in the "let's keep having shocking/unexpected twists" movement that was fashionable at the time. Taking the obvious and overwhelmingly popular direction was something they intentionally avoided. It just so happened that GoT had evolved into an extremely popular show, and the majority WANTED the traditional ending, because it would be satisfying.

You see Amazon (of all groups) adjusting to this, changing a show to meet popular demand: The Terminal List. People liked it, and the one thing they REALLY liked was the buddy relationship between Chris Pratt and Taylor Kitsch. Unfortunately, Pratt kills Kitsch at the end, because he was one of the guys that had betrayed the team. As far as I understand, Ben Edwards (Kitsch's role) doesn't make another appearance in the book series, as he's dead.
But because Amazon realized that dynamic was what made the show great, they're doing a season 2... a prequel. Specifically so we get more Pratt/Kitsch buddy stuff.
If HBO had read the room as well as Amazon, they'd have leaned on D&D to close the series the way the FANS wanted. Does that mean loss of artistic integrity? Yeah, maybe; but somebody should have taken a step back and realized "Hey, we're on the threshold of making the greatest show ever. This can be genre-defining, and last generations. Maybe we should stop being edgy and cement our legacies"

I have a hard time buying the premise that this show was anywhere in the top ten for "greatest shows ever". I watched all seasons under protest when I had a dorky gf that loved this stuff.
As another poster says, they did a good job of putting existing lore on screen but fell flat when it came time to come up with their own material.
Compare that with Sopranos or especially Mad Men that had dynamic characters, great acting, and brilliant writing. Also News Room. No comparison. Also compare to the original Star Wars trilogy for fantasy-related stories and its still no comparison. Too much T&A and dragons to fill the gaps, not enough writing and acting.

No. Martin is a master at good character development, and D&D were very good as adapting written material to the screen. Once THEY had to develop characters the show went to shite. Their talent is adaptation, and the quality of their production lies in the quality of the source material
