I thought the movie was really good, but it was the visuals that made the movie. Which I'm fine with because I'm a sucker for the visuals. Plot was average, majority of the jokes didn't seem natural and fell flat. Standard gripes I suppose.

I agree, but this herein lied the problem IMO. Within the first few minutes of the movie, I felt like I was watching a second rate Tony Stark. I wanted to see more Stephen Strange back story, not with Stephen Strange acting like Tony Stark. This aspect of the movie got old real quick for me.

There've been images of Odin/Hopkins looking like a bum in the streets f New York But I'm unaware of Cumberbatch being credited in Thor, so who knows?

Yeah this was the one movie where it made total sense. They did a fantastic job of bringing Ditko's art to life. That was a highlight of the film.

This was the first 3D film I'd seen in years and I was damn happy I didn't go 2D.

A number of Marvel heroes are the "one-liner arrogant" type. Stephen Strange was a world class surgeon who was so obsessed with his own greatness that he blew his entire fortune and many years of his life trying to fix his hands. The movie did a great job of showcasing all of that while still throwing in some nods that he is a good person.

I think Iron Man gets more credit because it was first, not because it was better than many other Marvel films. This movie showed that Strange was accomplished, selfish, but with a little good. His love interest was not pushed on us (which was refreshing that we didn't have to waste half an hour of the movie on an overplayed and pointless storyline).

Strange became a hero because he saw there was something bigger at stake and saw someone make the ultimate sacrifice. He didn't randomly try to defend the New York sanctum and attack. He tried to run and they chased him.

I think they did a great job, and even days removed from it I still think very high of the movie. It certainly was one of the best of the year for me in terms of comic book movies.

Just got out and I have to rant a little. Not about the movie, but about posters in here that go into every comic book film expecting A Dark Knight-like Oscar performance. That is not what has made Marvel successful and they shouldn't try to be that...they are in another league than DC with their movies overall because they make them what a comic book movie should be...fun.

Now off my pedestal, I'd put this one 2nd of the comic movies this year after only Civil War. I thought initially it was rushing a little but the pacing got better throughout and you could see Strange learning to use his different powers and realizing some things were bigger than him. The visuals were, as noted many times, insane and they could well win an Oscar for it. Really trippy and out there compared to the rest of the MCU. I imagine that cosmic element will come into play again with Thanos. I did think the fact it's an origin story left some character development to be desired, but we'll get there.

All told, it was a solid intro for Dr. Strange and I'm excited to see where they go in sequels. Could Dormammu be the big bad after Infinity War?
Anyways, this has been the #1 Marvel hero I've been wanting to see for a few years now and it didn't disappoint. Can't wait to see how he fits in with the Avengers vs Thanos
