Yep. New era in the same universe.

They should’ve done this to begin with if they weren’t going to follow the post RotJ storylines that were out there.

Mando and Grogu will probably make money, but will it be successful?

then how are we defining success is the question I guess. It will make money. that's all disney really cares about.

Is the question, will it be good? I hope so. We should be rooting for the ship to get course corrected.

will it make enough.

If it makes $1 over production and promotion, it made money, but really isn't a success. I would wager Disney needs this to make at least $100 million in the black, minimum.

And I am probably being conservative.

They need this movie to be huge.

Not really. It’s what he is calling the movie that will end the storylines he has been setting up in Mandalorian and Ahsoka.

Disney has done a very poor job of marketing it. They may even be actively sabotaging the project. The only way it makes money by the absurd standards of Star Wars (see Rogue One and Solo being considered “flops”) is if the movie is extremely good and word of mouth drives people to show up on the second, third, and fourth weekends.

I just don’t see how this is a hit right out the gate considering the studio’s crazy budget and expectations. Especially when this movie is essentially a sequel to 5 seasons of tv spread across 3 different shows.

Ngl, I feel sorry for John Boyega. The concept of a storm trooper being the product of childhood abduction, experiencing PTSD in battle, and revolting against his indoctrination was fascinating. His character had so much potential, and Episodes 8 and 9 just did absolutely nothing with it. Finn was completely sidelined and given nothing important to do.

Rian Johnson, man. He just didn't care about anything from the Force Awakens and just did his own thing

The whole character was stupid from the get-go. Why would a person who's been a soldier in the Nazi regime from childhood be so emotive?

Finn should have been exactly like K2-SO. He could still have been a funny character, but his comedy should have been in the fact that he was so serious and literal.

Anyway, the whole concept is stupid and I'm mad again about a movie from 10 years ago...

Thanks for bringing that up.

by what standard is Rogue One considered a flop? This is what I mean by Star Wars fans hate and view everything in a negative light.

Rogue One made a BILLION dollars and gave birth to one of the greatest pieces of content since Empire in Andor.

Disney is so stupid that they consider Rogue One a financial flop because their expectations are insane. By any other measure, it should have been considered a triumph, but Disney is run by imbeciles.

No.

It is a niche property that stumbled in its most recent season on Disney+. It will not pull a huge box office.

Finn should have been forced sensitive. A former stormtrooper becoming a jedi would have been awesome.

KK was perfectly fine with kissing off the older, original fans because she believed to her core that new fans would simply materialize from the ether & replace them.

This was made clear with every decision across the IP, from movies, shows & park experiences.
Disney got greedy, and their market analysis was wrong. It's really pretty simple;

Star Wars is
a) for boys
b) was a huge hit
c) was expected to keep it's base, no matter what

So, look at Barbie... that's for girls. It was a huge money hit.

The plan was to take Star Wars, and make it for girls. They thought they could hold 75% or more of the boy audience (probably thought closer to 90%), and bring in maybe half of the Barbie audience. Which would have pushed it to over 2 billion, maybe.

It didn't work. They never got the girls to buy in, and they ran off the boys.
