I just watched alien and aliens for the first time, now am I correct in the fact the Prometheus is another movie in the alien series? Probably a stupid question.

If so, do I have to watch 3 and resurrection before I see it?

FOR THE LOVE OF GOD NO! Why would you do that to yourself?

But seriously, they're decent movies, just not as good as 1 and 2. SPOILERS

The ending of 4 sucked balls. Hard.

Prometheus is sort of a prequel, maybe just loosely related to the series. No need to watch Alien 3 or Resurrection to understand Prometheus. I thought Resurrection was pretty good but most people seem to hate it.

I would watch Aliens3 because it is a lost classic. I know I'm alone on this, but I think its even better than Aliens, though not as good as Alien. Really, watch Alien at the very least, as its the only one made by Ridley Scott, who also made Prometheus.

And never watch Alien Resurrection. It's awful.

I completely agree. Alien was best of the series, but Alien 3 was very good. Aliens was okay but mostly an action movie.

Alien - great horror/suspense/thriller. Sci-Fi classic and one of the best films ever made.

Aliens - great action but not the masterpiece that the first one was. It's awesome but we've seen movies like this before.

Alien 3 - very good horror/suspense/thriller that gets almost no love from critics but it's definitely good

Alien Resurrection - uh very mediocre. The only one that I wouldn't recommend.

I haven't seen any of these movies. Could care less about Prometheus.. yet somehow I know that all of you are idiots. Prometheus is a "sequel" not a "prequel". It happens a long time after the movies and isn't even a part of the aliens story, just a part of the universe. But seriously, how on earth do you guys not realize this movie happens AFTER the alien movies...? Has been not a prequel for a very very long time.

Why that's odd. One of the co-writers says quite clearly that the series of events in Prometheus occur before the series of events in Alien. I guess he's mistaken.

Hilarious. I've never even once seen it talked about as a sequel in any form.

its not tied, it just takes place in the same universe. Its well known. They were thinking of doing a prequel type movie but decided to do a totally new story.

And this still utterly confuses me because I refuse to watch more trailers.

I remember this started out focusing on the "Space Jockey" and was very much going to center around the spawn of the Xenomorphs in some way, but they apparently abandoned that. I now have no idea what "new story" they created to be in the same universe, but I can't help but think it has to be tied SOMEHOW, just probably not as directly as a true Xenomorph origin story.
