Some movement on the inevitable as Disney's Predator Reboot has reportedly found its lead star in Legion star Amber Midthunder. Directed by Dan Trachtenberg (10 Cloverfield Lane), this particular Predator project has been in the works for several years. Per a new report from DiscussingFilm, production will finally begin soon in Calgary, Alberta, with Midthunder starring in the lead role.
No details have been revealed about the plot or character the character Amber Midthunder will be playing, but the story will reportedly follow "a Comanche woman who goes against the gender norms and traditions of her tribe to become a warrior." Patrick Aison is writing the screenplay. His previous work includes Treadstone, Jack Ryan, and serving as a consultant for Midthunder's show Legion.

she was fricking terrible in Legion. Wooden with zero charisma. But I guess when gender and ethnicity are the sole requirements, talent takes a backseat.

Oh for frick’s sake, I hate Hollywood.
GET THE ROCK! This is Arnold’s franchise, he made the movie. Hit those notes again and you’ll have something.
They’ve lost another lifelong and devoted fan though

Can’t tell if joking or not. Most Predator movies are lukewarm turds.

You’re the biggest cuck on this site, laugh at yourself.
Video games, other media, collectibles. blu rays, 4K discs, etc. It’s a franchise and I won’t spend any money on it because of their creative decisions

She going to be Billy's daughter, granddaughter or niece?

Okay, got a lot of thoughts about this one, so bear with me. Or don’t, I don’t care haha. But here’s a rambling list of thoughts in no particular order...
1) Do we really need another Predator reboot? Didn’t we just get a new one like 3 years ago? Are we really rebooting 3 year old movies now? Christ man, Hollywood has hit the bottom of the barrel on fresh ideas.
2) A movie focusing on a historically accurate representation of Comancheria (even if it were superimposed with a fantastical element like Predator) could have the potential to be outstanding. Truly elite. The Comanches were some of the toughest, most brutal, most freedom loving people to have ever lived on this continent. An accurate depiction of that culture could make an absolutely incredible movie
(NOTE: The “freedom loving people” comment is a reflection of the cultural norms they held for their own tribe - they obviously held very little regard for the freedom of others as they were a major slaving tribe)
Which brings me to...
3) Something tells me the Comanche are going to be treated with kiddy gloves in this movie (whatever could that be haha). The idea that the primary focus of the Comanche people in this movie is going to be on a woman bucking the cultural norms tells me that they are going to severely water down what the cultural norms were. Which would be a travesty, because the cultural is already fascinating.
The work that Comanche women did on a daily basis was brutal. Seriously, these gals are already fricking tough. And they would routinely take up arms and defend their homes when neighboring tribes or Europeans would raid. So the entire idea that the central drive of this movie’s main character is a desire to be more of a warrior is entirely unneeded within the context of this type of story. If a Predator figure was a threat to a Comanche woman’s home, it already would 100% be within the cultural norms of the tribe for her to take up arms against it. We don’t need her to experience some internal longing to be more culturally akin to a Comanche male for her fight against the Predator to make sense.
4) Lastly, and this was maybe already partially touched on, but Comanche women were already significantly harder workers than Comanche men and were legit bad asses. So hopefully this story doesn’t denigrate the virtues of that cultural norm or paint them as some submissive second class citizen as this lead character tries to break off into warrior mode. Comanche women are already so fascinating that the only way I could see building a story in which a character is viewed as the hero for rejecting this cultural norm is if you severely water down the role women play in Comanche society. But hopefully I’m wrong here and The People get a fair depiction on screen. Because a fair and accurate depiction would be unequivocally more interesting than any fantasy that some executive at Disney could create.

Nothing more realistic than a 115 lb 23 yr old woman kicking grown men’s and aliens asses.
I’m sure she’ll be able to draw upon her spirit animal and mystical powers - that we know all American Indians possess.

Because that’s what’s needed in a Predator movie...realism. An invisible alien hunting humans with laser beams and you are bitching that a female lead isn’t believable.

This will probably “costar” all the big action guys these days for them to die off and she is the sole survivor at the end to show how much better women are.

Plot twist - The Predator takes off his mask & looks like this:
Now THAT's a dude that should have a movie/miniseries made about him. His actual life story is interspersed among the plotlines of hundreds of westerns.
