Disney to take full control over Hulu, Comcast has option to sell its stake in 5 years
quote:
Disney will take “full operational control” over Hulu from Comcast, effective immediately, the companies announced Tuesday.
Comcast also will be allowed to sell its 33% stake in Hulu to Disney in 2024 at a valuation of at least $27.5 billion, even if the streaming service is worth less, according to the agreement. Comcast is guaranteed at least $5.8 billion for its Hulu stake, according to the agreement.
As part of the deal, Disney has agreed to pay Comcast for its Hulu content for the next five years. NBC channels will be on Hulu Live at a higher rate than previously agreed. NBCUniversal, CNBC’s parent company, will also be able to run the same content on its own streaming service, which is expected to launch in next spring.

Soon we wont have a bunch of different accounts to pay bills, we will all just cut one monthly check to Disney that covers everything, from our mortgage to our electricity.

I wonder if they would ever combine Hulu and Disney+ and just dominate the streaming market?

How is this not a monopoly

Netflix and Amazon Prime still exist

And no one is standing in the way of providers making new streaming services. Like the one NBC Universal is building that is allowed to have the same content that is also pledged to Hulu.

Yeah, but isn't Disney's market share starting to get extremely large?

You're missing the mono part of Monopoly...

This is becoming a monopoly which the government will eventually break up.

Also, Hulu is in the U.S. only. Netflix and Amazon Prime are international. Not that it has anything to do with a monopoly argument in the U.S., but Hulu is smaller potatoes.

You keep using that word.
I don’t think it means what you think it means.

As soon as we elect Jeff Bezos as President.

I think you're more likely to see bundling deals of Disney+, Hulu and Hulu Live.

one or both need to start offering streaming live tv. It's the only reason I keep Hulu.

Standard Oil never controlled 100%, but they were eventually labeled a monopoly. I understand the literal meaning of the mono- part. Microsoft Internet Explorer never controlled 100%, but they were also labeled a monopoly simply because of their practices.

Not entirely true, Hulu has been on Japan for a long time and is very popular there.

Still not on the international scale that Amazon and Netflix have established.

Any chance IASIP goes back to Netflix?
