She could have been an awesome character. Sister of a Resistance fighter who dies heroically, reinforces Finn's shaky commitment to the cause. I personally think Finn would have benefitted from a more individual personality (much like a young Han Solo).
Instead we get a character with no personality and a stupid bitch that has no idea what is going on in the entire universe. One of the most colossal frickups in plot, character development, and overall story design I have ever seen in a major budget film.

And after the movie the folks at Lucasfilm, particularly Rian Johnson, held her actress up as proof that everyone who hated the movie was a misogynistic racist. Which covered their behinds but put that lady front and center which drew even more negative attention her way.
With friends like that who needs enemies?
I don't blame Kelly Marie Tran for the Rose Tico fiasco; she didn't write that wretched turd of a script. I don't think she's the greatest thing since sliced bread when it comes to acting but you could have cast Audrey Hepburn or Meryl Streep in that role and it still would have sucked.

Rose, Finn, Rey, Ben Solo were all poorly written characters. Dont understand the overwhelming hate for Rose though .

Of those four, Rose was introduced in TLJ and immediately shoved into the forefront with inane writing and shitty characterization.
Finn, Rey, and Kylo Ren had some existing characterization from Force Awakens that helped cushion shitty writing / treatment in TLJ. Rose, not so much.
