Disney Drops Fox Name, Will Rebrand as 20th Century Studios, Searchlight Pictures
quote:

The mouse has officially killed the fox.

In a move at once unsurprising and highly symbolic, the Walt Disney Company is dropping the “Fox” brand from the 21st Century Fox assets it acquired last March, Variety has learned. The 20th Century Fox film studio will become 20th Century Studios, and Fox Searchlight Pictures will become simply Searchlight Pictures.

On the TV side, however, no final decisions have been made about adjusting the monikers of production units 20th Century Fox Television and Fox 21 Television Studios. Discussions about a possible name change are underway, but no consensus has emerged, according to a source close to the situation.

Nah, this is just more about Disney flexing to show it owns the world.

Due to Fox News, the name “Fox” is toxic to a certain percentage of the population.

From a marketing perspective, this is a smart move.

By the same logic, the name Disney is toxic to a certain percentage of the population.

Like it or not, about 1/3 of the population will not associate with Fox. Only a small number feel the same about Disney.

Those that hate Fox may well skip movies. I doubt many would boycott a film because the studio name does NOT include the word “Fox.”

You would argue with a fence post. I respectfully suggest that you keep your Poli Board grudges on the Poli Board.

No one's skipping movies and tv shows because they're produced by Fox. You think anyone's not gonna watch the Superbowl because its on Fox?

Seems like they would update to the 21st Century Studios while they are at it.

I think you underestimate the “resolve” of the Far-Left activist. By contrast, I doubt that ANYONE skips a film because a word is NOT in the studio name.

From the Disney perspective, why chance the former when they can easily achieve the latter?

Ironically those most likely to not watch the Superbowl would be Fox fans.

The only one this is making look looney is you man.

They bought a competitor, don't want the competitor's name in the brand anymore. Not everything in your life has to be about politics, I promise.

Do you have any data to back this up or are you going by your gut? Because on the surface you're appearing to have an agenda, and a weak one at that.

Disney is losing the Fox name because they do not own everything "FOX". They're still in competion with the remaining FOX entities and it does them no good to spend billions that will go, in part, to promoting their competition.

Empire isn't going without an audience on FOX because it's close to FOX News. The audience for Last Man Standing isn't watching because it's on a network called "FOX".

If we're making up data, I'm going to say that 98.74% of audiences don't give a shite if a film is made by 20th Century Fox or 20th Century Studios.
