The code name the writers used for the season 3 finale of lost was literally "the snake in the mailbox". I'll go with that one

One of the more controversial/mysterious WTF moments at the time was the rather large reveal in The Crying Game.

Who shot JR and the end of the sopranos are the 2 most infamous "moments" in tv history.

People that have never seen a minute of either show have heard about these scenes constantly, and they still live on in tv lore.

The Practice was always good for some solid WTF moments:

1) dude dressed up like a nun killing folks
2) Lindsey getting stabbed
3) Bobby hiring a dude to "scare" Hinx (Hinks?) only to find his head in a freezer the next day
4) The dentist who had a fetish (can't remember, but it might have been a weird foot fetish where he would get off while having patients in the chairs) and ended up killing someone.

The one that comes to mind is in the first season of Deadwood when those two swindling kids come through town and rip off Swearengen. That final scene when he's torturing the them in front of ???(forget her name, dammit!) was intense.

This one

Jesus, and I got it wrong. It was Cy torturing them, and her name was Joni.

You can mock the shark jump but folks loved it when it happened. Also, the whole shark jump meme is moronic because the show continued to have great ratings.

Instead of jumping the shark, it should be riding the bull. That is when the show was in steady decline.

The shark jump was just a ramp up from Fonzie's first stunt with the motorcycle jump.

It's not just about the ratings.

For me, Happy Days "jumped the shark" early on, when they switched to filming in front of a live audience. The cast began to shout the punchlines and every entrance of a character was met with ridiculously loud applause.

"WE HAVE TO GO BACK, KATE!"

That whole episode was full of gems.
Jack popping pills in his Jeep and blasting "In Utero" era Nirvana.
Sayid straight up snapping a guy's neck with his feet.
"Not Penny's Boat"
And the ending.
The funny thing is I saw that episode the night before I headed out on a trip out West, with a friend who had just started watching the first season of Lost and he was raving about it. And I was telling him "You know, you talking about how good this show is, well, that's like you telling me about how great the Beatles were on The Ed Sullivan Show the day after Sgt. Pepper's came out. Just you wait."

A decade later, and I'm still kind of pissed about that ending.
