And yet considering that it only made $80 million or so in theaters, less than 10 million saw it in theaters and that's not accounting for repeat viewers.
It doesn't matter if they saw it in theaters they still knew what it was.

So you really believe that a sizable chunk of high school kids are aware of not who Heath Ledger was, but were viewers of Brokeback Mountaint, AND knew that he was in the movie? You live in a bubble if you believe that inner city high school kids of Detroit, Chicago, NYC, Houston, Miami, and Los Angeles knew a damn thing about Heath Ledger or a movie about gay cowboys (did they eat pudding)?
I think probably 70% of people knew who Heath Ledger was before Batman. I'M NOT SAYING THEY SAW THE MOVIE. IM SAYING THEY KNEW OF THE MOVIE.

Best =/= popular. The King's Speech didn't do shite at the box office and is nowhere near as popular as say... Avatar.
agreed but people know about it.

I didn't say it was just my friends but I know it as a fact that alot of people my age watch those award shows.

Yeah it was the gay cowboy movie that was used as a joke. I'm sure everyone who cracked a joke about it or used it in a joke knew all the stars of the movie, right?

So 70% of people who saw The Dark Knight knew who he was before his involvement in the movie? So before he was ever cast as The Joker, before his death, before he delivered an incredible performance 70% of TDK viewers knew exactly who he was?

Knowing of something's existence =/= knowing about it. I know Miley Cyrus makes music, but I don't know (or give a damn) about her music, savvy?

Your age demographic is more likely to watch the MTV Movie Awards than the Oscars. Hell my aunt and uncle watched the Oscars despite the fact that they didn't see a single movie on the Best Picture nominee list (with the exception of Toy Story 3). Hell I watch a lot of movies and I only saw Inception and Toy Story 3 (I'll catch True Grit on Netflix).

over 70% of the general population or 70% of the people who saw TDK? That's getting down into some serious demographically breakdowns.

they'd seen him in other things and knew his name.

yep. Either by just knowing his name or by seeing his movies.

point is you know who she is. You might not be able to name one of her songs or her movies but you know who she is. That is the point.

I couldn't disagree more. I don't know of any of my friends who has ever talked about watching the MTV movie awards and yet many of them were saying they were going to watch the Oscars.

so most everyone who saw TDK didn't know who the hell heath ledger was before watching it?

Such as??? The biggest movie he was in before TDK was The Patriot and he was a supporting character in that. He died roughly halfway through the movie.

Just because you hear a name doesn't mean you know who they are or what they do. Do you know who Dileep Rao is? You've seen his face several times, but I bet you don't know the name or what he does.

To be fair, gamecock alum mentioned movie, never mentioned film.
I think there is a difference, and the semantics is what's making this thread enjoyable to read.
I also think there is truth to what Gamecock alum is saying about Heath Ledger not being a household name until his role/death. Don't hate it, it's just how it is.
I recognized Heath in 10 Things I hate about you and all his roles after that, but he wasn't as well known until TDK. I'm not going to throw percentages out there.
But about Transformers 2: it was a let down, the first one set up their credibility for a fan-backed trilogy. The second one didn't deliver because they didn't have their hearts in the right place.
Bay is a good director in what he does. Don't give him a script that is Citizen Kane though. I have found may hours of enjoyment from most of his movies.

in at least 1 of the movies that's been previously mentioned.

That rushed script didn't do them any favors either. BTW, the same men who wrote the script for Transformers and Transformers 2 also wrote Star Trek and write for Fringe. They also wrote Mission Impossible 3 and wrote Cowboys & Aliens.
They also had to go to their second/third choice for the Leo role. They wanted Jonah Hill but apparently Hill is too good to get paid a shitload of money to do an action movie.

Citizen Kane
has one of the biggest plotholes in ceinamtic history.
So Charles Foster Kane is dying and his last word is Rosebud and he drops the snowglobe. His nurse/caretaker walks in and then the media hunt to figure out what the meaning of Rosebud begins.
So who exactly heard him say Rosebud? No one was in the room. The nurse/caretaker didn't walk into the room until AFTER he dropped the snowglobe. So who heard him utter Rosebud? Does he possess ESP?
I don't see how anyone can say that it is the greatest film of all time when it opens with a glaring plothole.

Or maybe Jonah saw that the script sucked, wasn't funny, and would likely damage his reputation as a comedic actor if he played in it? Jonah Hill hasn't been in a bad film yet (maybe aside from Click, but no one remembers that), so maybe he decided he didn't want to make a quick easy buck so people would not remember him as that douche from Transformers 2. That was certainly a good career move for him.

I'd bet a million dollars that you have not seen Citizen Kane. Plus she was right outside the door, likely listening in to make sure nothing happened to him. Not a plot hole.
