It was a stupid, formulaic movie. The little goofy jokes, coupled with the idiotic situations like the clumsy Falcon flight and the out of place tentacle creature did a really complete job of ruining it.

But yeah, TLJ's shittiness gives it a pass because it dominates the discussion.

I felt it could have been better, but was extremely excited about how it set up this trilogy. Made the letdown of TLJ even worse.

Defeating Kylo, a skilled Force user, is still ridiculous to watch. It doesn't matter that Kylo was "hurt" or that Rey has "combat training with a stick". You have a skilled Force user with 10+ years of experience going up against someone who has no idea what they're doing. That fight should have been over in 2 seconds.

Yep.

That scene nearly kills the movie for me.

liked it...but TLJ hurt it a lot. Every question that was asked in TFA was made irrelevant in TLJ.

This.

Who are Rey’s parents? No one.
Who is Snoke and how did he become so powerful/rule the Second Order? Who cares. Dead.
Luke is back. Tosses lightsaber.

If TLJ had been a spin-off movie with original characters it would have been good, not great bc the script is weak but it would be good for sure. It’s failings are in that it was part 8 of a saga and clearly not only had no interest in fitting in with that saga but wanted to actively work against it.

TFA is less well made movie but bc it actually understands and embraces its role in the overall story it works much better as a Star Wars saga chapter. But for the love of god enough with the super lasers.

No, more of a homage than a rehash/remake

Only part that doesn't bother me.

Honestly, Daisy Ridley is the only good thing about these movies.

i may agree with the first part but i definitely agree with the last part. it's just hard to separate the concepts b/c of how bad TLJ was within the storylines

I thought it was better than A New Hope.

I also thought TLJ would be much better if you just let Leia die in space, don't take the detour to the casino, and let Finn sacrifice himself.

I enjoyed it. It wasn't the old trilogy for me by any means, but it definitely had me excited for where they were taking things(before TLJ)

I didn’t like that they basically remade the original movie over. But I thought they built a solid base to start a new trilogy

I don’t find TLJ to be a complete shite show, I think it also had a lot of good elements but having a different director coming in and trying to change directions in the middle caused a lot of the issues. Hopefully bringing JJ back will go back to more like TFA but again it appears they are appearing to copy the original trilogy. But that’s a safer route for them so I get it

I enjoyed it, and I believe most people did when it came out.

The complaints I heard the most were how it recycled alot of the same plot from A New Hope. Given how the prequels were a pretty big disappointment, I had zero issue with going back to what worked in the past as a sort of "reset" button.

And I think it set the stage beautifully for episode VIII, which made Rian shitting all over what Abrams had set up for him all the more disappointing.

I hate this line.

Who was Obi-Wan in TFA?
Who was Kylo in ANH?
3po?
Owen and Beru?
Tarkin?
Leia?
Phasma?
Finn?
Rey (she's nothing like Luke)

Etc....

They shared a few points common to star wars, such as, the force, Skywalkers, lightsabers, etc but they are very different movies characterwise. The biggest problem with TFA was stupid side plot of reblowing up the death star. That was an unnecessary rehash I hated.

But there is a solid amount of differences in both characters and story.

I was very excited for it after first trailer but the more time went on the more I realized we didn't really need another Star Wars movie that played off the original cast. I wanted movies like Rogue One that got into a side of Star Wars that we haven't seen yet. That is why I am so pumped for this Madalorian show.

He just took a pretty much point black Shotgun blast to the chest after murdering his own father. He was hardly at the top of his game.
