Did you guys think TFA was a good movie or do you only like when in comparison to TLJ?

I was extremely disappointed with The Force Awakens, and I only think its a good movie when compared to The Last Jedi abortion.

At the same time I understood why TFA was needed and why it was written the way it was, which is why I was so excited about The Last Jedi going into it. I thought while TFA was a bad movie, it set the table for what should have been an awesome, epic TLJ. Which didn't happen.

I like it and most people liked it. I’ve noticed on this board a lot of people suddenly dislike it but that wasn’t the case before TLJ.

I liked it because it felt like a Star Wars movie, as opposed to the prequels. . .which felt like uber-cgi Starship Troopers

Would you like to know more?

As I've said since it came out, its nothing more than a lazy remake.

TFA is just a rehash of a new hope. I did like Rey though. Finn and Poe were wasted.

I like it less now, because of TLJ, for the same reasons you mention. I liked TFA, because it felt like it was setting up something epic in the next movie. Although a re-hash, it had some interesting new characters and the story was going in a good direction until Rian Johnson shite all over it.

TFA was by no means terrible.

Was a good way to restart the franchise and laid the groundwork for what could have been a really good trilogy of movies.

It was as good of not better than 4 of the 6 previous Star Wars films.

TLJ, however, screwed it up so badly that it is almost impossible for this trilogy to recover.

I like it but always said that it’s staying power depended on the 8th film. Because The Last Jedi was so bad, it became a lesser film.

yeah it was pretty good but a very simplistic retelling of ANH with the meaningless addition of finn

it was a "Star Wars" film, though, unlike the prequels and TLJ (which was apparently made to destroy "Star Wars" films). it had the adventure and the fun and the scope that fits in perfectly with the OT and in that respect, even with the copying, it was a solid restart

the question was always how the other 2 films played out (to make up for the copying). 50% of those 2 films is a rotten, soulless mess of a movie

It's good to a point.

It was a solid way to reboot.

I liked it...but TLJ hurt it a lot. Every question that was asked in TFA was made irrelevant in TLJ.

I thought it was a good movie. I thought it was a pallet cleanser that opened up a dozen doors for a badass couple of sequels. Maybe I'm completely blinded by nostalgia (I admit to tearing up during the teaser trailer for TFA) or by how thicc Rey's thighs looked on those stone steps, I dunno.

TLJ was the fundamental opposite of everything I expected and of what a Star Wars movie should be.

At least you remember the prequels because of how bad they were.

TFA is completely forgettable

TFA sucked when Kylie ren took of his mask. It’s like opening a big Christmas present only to find a can of spam. Somethings are best left unopened.

I still like TFA. Had its problems, but kept a lot of good themes from ANH.

tLJ shite on those.

I liked it because it revived Star Wars (true SW after a 30 year break) and I didn’t mind the hamfisted nods to the OT.

Ultimately the story was kinda bland but it opened up questions that I wanted answered. Of course TLJ ruined it as we all know but I still try to keep perspective for how I felt about TFA when it came out.

I like TLJ better for this reason. It actually held my attention unlike TFA which was boring and predictable.

It was/is a really good SW flick! #5 overall!

Anyone who doesn't like it is a jackass.

...next stupid question?

It was an average film. It did lay a somewhat solid foundation for the trilogy.

Rey's inexplicable power-up is still confounding to watch. Executing Jedi mind-tricks with zero practice or knowledge of the Force was laughable.

Defeating Kylo, a skilled Force user, is still ridiculous to watch. It doesn't matter that Kylo was "hurt" or that Rey has "combat training with a stick". You have a skilled Force user with 10+ years of experience going up against someone who has no idea what they're doing. That fight should have been over in 2 seconds.
