The he was a school teacher line was definitely copied.
1997:
In starship Troopers, Michael Ironside plays a badass Platoon leader and this exchange happens after he shows how badass he is:
1998:
Saving Private Ryan:
Tom Hanks plays a badass Platoon leader and this happens:
Pretty much the exact same quote from the same exact character.
Plus they're both war movies, and have characters dieing, both are searching for something the whole movie.
Starship Troopers was groundbreaking.
Saving Private Ryan swam in its wake.

Can you elaborate?

quote:
Ace: Dizzy says you two knew this Rasczak character in Buenos Aires...
Johnny: He was our teacher. He was great.

quote:
I'm a schoolteacher. I teach English composition... in this little town called Adley, Pennsylvania.
Pretty much the exact same quote from the same exact character.

Somebody is on the wrong board.
Or is that a starship troopers reference?

Why in the world are these two movies even in the same thread together.

I'm not sure I can adequately respond to this until I'm a few whiskeys deep.

It's actually Saving Private Ryan stole it from the Civil War the actual one.
LINK
Professor Joshua Chamberlain.
His claim to fame was being separated during the battle of Gettysburg and then withstanding the assault of the Confederates, then when he was out of ammo, he charged them with bayonets and made their arse quit. If he did not do that, the Confederates would have rolled up the Union Flank or at the very least broken the Union forces.

When Sgt. Zim stumbled into this thread, I heard him shout "Medic!" but they were too late to save it from being so stupid.

What's really astounding is that Denise Richards continued to get acting gigs AFTER Starship Troopers.
She made Padme look like Shakespeare.
...And Dizz was hot af.

I doubt the teacher thing was based on Starship Troopers, but the opening scene of Saving Private Ryan is definitely based on the Battle of Klendathu.

Upvote for being smart enough to realize that Starship Troopers is superior to Saving Private Ryan.
