Did Michael Moore kill the documentary?

i've watched a ton of netflix instant docs the past few months and almost all of them follow the same pattern of moore
1st person story with tons of narration
silly cartoons
heavy use on ambush or highly edited interviews
horribly slanted medium that refuses to look art both sides
now i was no expert on docs prior to roger and me, so perhaps my perspective bias may be a true observation across decades...and that's why i made a thread!

I've never seen a Moore doc. and I don't think I will ever want to

i'd say historically most docs would be more aptly titled video "essays" as they all seem to have a thesis and a point to prove.
very few are actually interested in simply "documenting" something interesting.

He definitely made me start wondering whether or not the documentary I am currently watching is biased propaganda. I guess that's why I enjoy more dramatic type documentaries such as Hoop Dreams and Shoah as opposed to more informative docs.

If I remember right, Roger and me didn't really follow the format of the others. Bowling for Columbine followed that to a t.

I don't think he killed the documentary but I did hear he killed his nephew for trying to steal a French fry out of his box

you're right. roger and me and the big one did not. bowling changed it all (and its commercial success changed the game in general)

Nope.
Restrepo, Food, Inc., God Grew Tired of Us, The Fog of War, Jesus Camp, several of the National Geographic docs, and pretty much anything and everything done by Frontline or the BBC (especially their WWII docs) and even some of the Nova stuff.

Not sure how old you are but Michael Moore is a copy of many previous docs, he just happened to come along when the world wide web went viral

Moore cemented the "Doc is about the documentarian" genre.
Albert Brooks warned us about it with Real Life back in 1979.
Now we get doc after doc where, "I set out to learn about X, but ended up learning more about myself."

Michael Moore has never made a documentary. Everything he does is Propaganda for the left.

You haven't missed anything. He's a liberal hack and his so called documentaries are biased political motivation.

I do not watch his crap. I do enjoy an Alex Jones one though.
