I think Matthews knows about Dexter cause he worked with and was really close to Dexter's dad. Its almost been like he has been protecting him telling Dexter about the investigation and just how much he has been telling LaGuerta she is crazy for even thinking Dexter could be a killer.

Solid theory, IMO.

I hope they squeeze in another visit to the titty bar next week.

On a serious note, this is the best season since season 4, "Trinity Killer Season". I think a lot of people in this thread might be thinking this was season 3 but that was the one with Miguel Prado.

The actress playing Hanna delivers an exceptionally good performance in this episode and has been good throughout the season.

I am bracing myself for the finale as I am preparing for a shocking ending, on par with Rita in the bathtub in season 4.

Could this be it for Debra?

I hope not, but it's possible.

I hope so. Deb is one of the most annoying characters on tv. I have been pulling for her to get killed since season 1. She has been somewhat bearable this season, but not redeeming enough to make me hope she sticks around. She is on the same level as Tara from True Blood for me.

It seems to me that arresting Hannah was a dumb move. She could easily get a plea deal by giving them info on how Dexter is a serial killer. Looks like in the preview for next week she may be hinting this to Deb.

I've referenced 3 several times on purpose. I've said I would put this one on par with 3, not that this was the best since then. My rankings would go

1/2/4
3/7

Yeah, there's no way with another season on deck that Deb bites the dust. She's too crucial to the show.

And I will admit, she has gotten SLIGHTLY less annoying IMO.

I don't think she's annoying.

The plotlines with her and her love interests (aside from Lundy and Rudy) are annoying though.

I also think Deb set Hannah up. LaGuerta's setup was pretty good too. However I think Dexter should get dumbass of the year award for this episode.

1 - he should know that Hannah would've succeeded if she went after Deb. Hannah is too good to frick that up.
2 - when people are investigating you as a possible BHB, you don't kill the guy that killed your mom immediately after he is released from prison. you've waited 40 years. you can wait a little longer.
3 - If there was ever a person you should kill and not arrest, is it Hannah. She is only after self preservation and knows more about Dex than anyone. Deb would have been happy letting her get killed.

Bottom line: the writers made Dexter look pretty dumb in this episode. I understand there's a fine balance in making a protagonist believable/human but as someone mentioned, this just seems like lazy writing.

Dexter's setup with Estrada was not credible. No way Estrada straight out of prison trusts Dexter (a stranger) to meet him alone without checking him out. The whole scenario felt rushed. Also, Dexter shows up at Estrada's release hearing and doesn't say a word in protest? Really? Probably would have been better to not have attended citing painful memories, whatever.

Also, as you mention, neither Dexter or Deb are thinking through the implications of arresting Hannah. Dexter should have said something like: Look Deb, Hannah knows everything about me and you put the squeeze on her she might well squeal. My guess is there will be an awkward conversation between Deb and Hannah in which Hannah basically says: drop the charges or else I will spill the beans about Dexter.

What I would have preferred was a smart scenario with Dexter setting up another criminal to take the fall as the Bay Harbor Butcher. The literal fall-guy is found knocked out on the floor of the shipping container where he has slipped on Estrada's blood and hit his head on the table, the chainsaw still running, the blood slide is on the table, etc..... Doakes is redeemed, LeGuerta is happy and Dexter is off the hook.

I'm more concerned with Angel dying. He said he was turning in his resignation on the 1st. He just signed his own tv/movie cop death warrant.

Angel is for sure a gonner. The retirement cop cliche is so obvious.

"One day left until retirement."

And I was taken off guard by Laguerta's set up of Dex. That was pretty good.

Yea, I really don't think that Hannah drugged Deb either. I was thinking that ole girl Deb was pressuring to roll over on Hannah might have broke in Debs place and dosed the water bottle.

They didn't catch the arsonist last week did they? My guess is Angel and his restaurant go up in flames next week.

ETA: Agree with the poster who said that Deb (assuming she drugged herself/set up Hannah) and LaGuerta both showed themselves to be operating on a higher plane of intelligence this week than they ever had before. Found it to be a nice surprise.

They kind of abandoned the storyline. I forgot about it. Last thing I remember is the bus.

They got him. Dex turned him over to the cops.

So is the arsonist not going to mention anything about Dex/a guy who was going to kill him when they question him?

looks like Hector Estrada going in the back of the SUV

on the table later

surprise mothafricka! the first time he said that was outdoors by the shipping containers so this is definitely a new scene but it has to be Dex's imagination like Harry and Brian because Doakes is definitely dead

happy new year!

Something bad will happen to Deb in the finale, maybe she takes the fall, I don't know but she has some poetic justice coming her way.

Maybe she offs Laguerta and gets caught or something like that.

Just a hunch.

yeah, I don't think they threw the scene with her stalking LaGuerta in that creepy Dexter like shirt for no reason.

For sure, he's gotta know she'll turn him in if she needs to.

I dk what is going to happen in the finale but I know it'll be crazy.
