he book goes into great detail on how the FBI managed to solve the case. The movie barely touched on that.
I think that as soon as Leo said that he wanted to play the husband, we were doomed for the focus to shift to him instead of an overall view of the murder investigation. If he had played the lead FBI guy, we'd have gotten a much better film.

I had no idea about the enormity of the first Ferris Wheel until I read this book.

If you go to the Midway on the old fair grounds by the University of Chicago today, there's a huge ice skating rink. That's actually where the base of the Ferris Wheel was dug.

I'm ecstatic about this project being revived. I love consuming material on the 1893 Fair and Holmes. I've hung out in Jackson Park a ton over the years. I really want to see the White City recreated on the big screen.

Hell, I'm still waiting on their Teddy Roosevelt biopic that's been talked about for at least that long.

I need this and the Sinatra pic he talked about last year.

Would much rather him do Sinatra especially if he has a lot of tie ins w/ the Kennedys and mob.

What's the over under on the DITWC run time? 4.5 hours? Considering each independent story could carry a movie, i'm going over.

I feel like this has been going on for at least 10-15 years. Hopefully they make it happen.

Yeah, glad it seems moves are being made.

In the Garden of Beasts, Dead Wake, and the Splendid and the Vile would also make good films.

I haven’t read Splendid and the Vile but need to.

Garden of Beasts totally changed my views on WWII. Not changed like “Hitler wasn’t a bad guy,” just the motivations of Germany after WWI and the sheer depression they suffered after.

Great read. I would have liked to see his daughter’s spy arc play out a bit more.

For real, I'll need to see pictures of Leo on set before I believe it's really happening

I'm not getting my hopes up. Given Leo's recent production moves, he'll probably demand that the film focuses primarily on the environmental damage to Chicago from fair construction and operation, with side stories on the mistreatment of labor and female disempowerment from unreported kidnappings.

Erik Larson is such a good writer, but I didn't really care for his most recent civil war tome
