We started Broadchurch last week based off this post and finished it yesterday, great show. I don’t know how it never popped up on our radar before.

If you don't mind period stuff, check out Endeavor as well. It's another good copper show.

We will definitely check it out. I don’t how the British are able to continuously put out these great detective shows but I’m glad they do.

Liked Mathew Goode in A Discovery of Witches ( liked Teresa Palmer more - giggity)

Slowly getting into this one. Decent so far. Character sorta reminds me of Tennant in Broadchurch…

Broadchurch is one of my favorites as well. If you haven't seen Luther definitely check it out. Some more dark British crime drama.

It’s one of our favorites. Line of Duty was our introduction to British TV several years back, I really hope the rumors of a seventh season are true.

Like his assistant well enough so far but the snark at the end of E2 didn’t sit well with me.

Why? He was being dickish by telling him the office wasn’t a mosque.

Thing is, he’s right. The rest of the world doesn’t need to bend the knee to Islam. Especially in current day UK.

Whine about it being just a subtle nothing comment but there’s much more to it.

I came here because that confused me too, was like did they totally forget that part of the show or did I miss something

I guess they meant it was going to be Hardy working on it given the papers the boss was looking at but thought it was kind of odd given the entire season they told Carl he is not allowed to investigate his own shooting. Not sure why that wouldn't apply to Hardy too.

I think the reason they wouldn't let Carl work on it is well, because it is Carl. He is a loose canon on his best day, let alone investigating his own shooting. Hardy is much more level headed it seems and the chief probably believes he is capable of handling it without beating anyone almost to death outside an ice cream shop

Still definitely a conflict of interest, and he may not even be the lead on it since he isn't exactly mobile.

That's pretty much how I wrote it off too. I just could have swore they said he could not legally work on it, not just because he wouldn't be good for it. Could be wrong there though.

Either way, I enjoyed the show pretty good. Wish he would have said something to the attorney there at the end when he ran into her at the elevator, but it was a nice rare humble moment on his part.

Carl and Akram were the highlight of the series for me though.

I don't think there is any legal issue with it, per say. Department policies i'm sure are very against it and it definitely isn't best practices for obvious reasons.

I LOVE Kelly Macdonald.

It just hit me that she also plays the wife in No Country for Old Men. Really good actress who is also nice to look at.

Overall enjoyed the series, somewhat similar show to Slow Horses. I would watch a second season.

Like GCA said, I think it was more Carl was too emotional and too hot headed to work their case and Hardy has the better temperament for it.

Some departments here in the US have rules against investigating your own case (ethically and typically departmentally). But, I don't know how that applies to across the pond. And of course, there's a little suspension of belief here in a fictional universe.

Really liked this

Candidly i thought the story was a little thin/cheesy at time, but the setting/characters/quality/dialogue made up for it

I feel like a lot of times it’s the opposite

Just finished this. Great show. Can't wait for another season. I would love this to stay strong for 4-5 seasons.

One funny quirk in the show. In true Frank Drebin style he always parks partly on the curb.

I completely did not associate that with Police Squad. Good catch!

I think for this character it's a visual to show how few fricks he gives.

Just finished the show thanks to this thread. Absolutely loved the show. I couldn't stop watching it. Hopefully the next season keeps the standard up.

It was a very bingeable show. I rarely watch more than one episode of TV a day but I knocked this one out pretty quick. Very easy watch, looking forward to season 2.

My only concern is that whatever growth characters showed over the course of the first season is reversed for the sake of story in the second. For instance, Morck's relationship with his step-son, Rose's confidence as a cop, etc.

I am seeing that a ton while my wife and I go through Suits. We are on season 7, and none of the characters learn from any of their experiences. They go right back to the same faults they've always had.
