It's not like Matt or Dany has Tony Stark on speed dial.

Billionaire Dany Rand, who just so happens to be a super hero, Daredevil wrecking shite all over new York, like Spider-Man, I'm pretty sure Tony stark is more than aware of both of them.

There was literally not a hint of any other hero or anything from the MCU. You'd think someone like Danny would ask Luke Cage if he's as strong as Hulk when they first meet.

Does the avengers not exist in this show? I mean when stuff that can endanger the city comes around they can always call the Avengers. Also at them not believing the whole mystical part of things... Thor is living proof of magic...

Yes, but they don't exactly operate on the same scale as the avengers. They've acknowledged the avengers existence multiple times in the show, especially daredevil season 1. They show newspaper clippings of the "Battle of New York" etc.

There's no telling what ordinary, everyday people think about Thor. Is he an alien, a mutant, or a god? I doubt most people know his actual backstory.

There no mutant in the MCU, as for god, that falls under magical. Alien, maybe but clearly norse myth equal thor. I dont think he is shy about it and Tony is marketing them so their bio should be available.

As for getting in charge Danny is rich he can get a meeting with tony. If he was a street scrub sure.

was really bored by Defenders.

Same here. I've decided I don't like the Marvel Netflix shows.

My favorite is Jessica Jones. Second would be daredevil. Didn't care for the other two.

For having only 8 episodes, they sure did find a way not to focus on the team. The 5 minutes of screen time that Murdock and Jones had was the best part of the show. They work well off each other, but the writers would much rather try to focus on the awful Misty Knight and the other 25 complementary characters in the universe.

The Hand is also an awful villain.

Severely disappointed in the series.

8/10. Great season. Loved the interactions between all of them really. My only knock was the finale, but I know they're setting shite up for season three of DD

They did mention "the incident" a couple of times in the season, which based on the individual series is referencing the alien attack on NY.

As for Danny asking Luke Cage about the Hulk... Danny wasn't even in New York (or the United States for that matter) when it happened. Hell, there's very little evidence that this Iron Fist has any grasp on anything that's going on in the world around him other than what's right in front of his face at the time.

I was looking forward to this. I didn't hate it but I was very underwhelmed. There were nearly 3 full episodes of setup. It was necessary but it wasn't very fun and I'm not sure how to fix it. I think the other big flaw is them making the Hand need something from the good guys. The bad guys just never seemed to have the upper hand, no pun intended, other than Elektra being the most powerful character on the show when she chose to be. Whether through superior powers, planning or resources, the bad guys need to be scary and they just weren't here.

Punisher is coming next, but I think the end set up Jessica Jones as the most likely series after that. It also looked like they were trying to pair Trish and Karen up, I guess for future crossovers between JJ and DD or maybe even Punisher.

I enjoyed watching it, but the writing was pretty shitty in retrospect.

As multiple people have mentioned the Hand was all over the place. Did they ever actually explain what caused the earthquake? And then if they removed all the dragon bones it would cause New York to collapse? What the frick? The only one who seemed to have consistent motivations was Weaver's character.

Elektra essentially went through the same character arc in Daredevil, with Murdock doing the same with her. I really like Elektra & the actress, but hope that's the end of her if they can't get any more creative with her character.

Luke Cage was pretty underpowered compared to how I remembered him in Jessica Jones. Glad Stick is dead. Finn Jones was much better in this so that's an improvement.

I pretty much agree with your entire post. I liked it, but the rationality and motivations were off at certain points.

1. Daredevil was by far a better fighter than any other defender.
2. Misty Knight is so freaking hot. Loved that tight shirt on her.
3. 8 episodes is perfect. Other than Daredevil 1 & 2, the other shows had too much filler.
4. I actually think the Defender needed a better plot. The Hand was supposedly a threat to everyone in NY, but in the end; all they wanted were the dragon bones for immorality. With them being able to bring back characters at will, why would they need immortality.
5. Overall, I thought it was ok. I agree with the poster who said that the writing needed a lot of help.
6. I would love to see more seasons of Daredevil but the other characters will need an overhaul in their storyline and villains.

I thought it was them using the C4 to blow tunnels instead of digging (which is what I think the original plan was until Weaver's character told Gao to fast track it) down in the hole to find the dragon bones. After they used the C4, that is when they found the seal/door. That is also where the architect got the C4 he was planning on using to bring down the building.

Yeah, I didn't understand that one either. Were they implying that the dragon bones were somehow keeping NY stable, or was the Hand just going to level NY after they got the bones to cover their tracks, or like the League of Shadows was going to level Gotham in Batman Begins to clean up the corruption? I'm not sure what they were implying.

Fewer series, combine the characters. Heroes for Hire can be one series focusing on Cage and Fist. Daughters of the Dragon can feature Jessica Jones, Misty Knight, and Colleen Wing.

Series was decent. I think they did a good job of bringing the characters together, and I'm glad they moved on from the Hand.

I found the series flat.

I don't know if it was the writing or the underwhelming big bad.

The thing is, I was fired up for this and I do think 8 episodes is the perfect length.

Hopefully the Punisher is better.

Yes but they only deal with dangerous threats that are capable of wrecking the entire world or at least a continent and can kill millions. The Defenders deal with small time threats that can make life really uncomfortable to not pretty at all for half of the city.

Basically the avengers are like the NFL and these people in Daredevil, Jessica Jones, Luke Cage and Danny Rand are like High School football.

And even if they could get in touch with the front desk at the Avenger's compound, something tells me they'd have a hard time convincing them that they were serious.

And even if they were convinced, they would likely only send one or maybe two avengers.

Just a pairing of Captain America and the Winter Soldier alone would've defeated the entire force the hand had in this series and able to handle Elektra with ease.

I honestly hope Elektra survived the bomb.

I really love the chemistry she and Matt has. They're too good of a force together to just die like that.
